Pakistani jewellery shinning at 3rd China International Import Expo

DNA

BEIJING, Nov. 7  –  Pakistani jewellery shinning at 3rd China International Import Expo, being held in Shanghai, Gwadar Pro reported on Saturday.

The Expo (CIIE) grandly opened this week. As the world’s first import-themed national-level expo, it connects enterprises across the globe together to tap the great potential of the Chinese market and give fresh impetus to the world economy inflicted by the coronavirus pandemic.

Thirteen Pakistani enterprises specialized in jewellery design and manufacturing, cross-border trade, freight transportation, furniture, artistic handicrafts, etc. attend this year’s CIIE. Among all the exhibits, stunning gems and jewellery from Pakistan become a big hit with the Chinese buyers.

” This is the third time that we’ve attended CIIE. After attending the first CIIE as visitors, we promptly decided that we should participate as an exhibitor to showcase our products as we saw huge potential in the Chinese market, ” said Faizan Ahmed from Shakeeb Gems.

Although it took 14 days to put himself in quarantine, Faizan Ahmed’s enthusiasm for this expo never cools down because at last year’s CIIE he found targeted purchasers.

“Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we’ve been to neither any exhibition nor other city since last year. We think China is safer than any other country in the current pandemic situation. So we come here and try to explore business opportunities,” he said.

This year he brought Pakistan’s tourmaline, lapis, garnet, sapphire and ruby to this expo. As he observed, among all these gems, tourmaline is Chinese people’s favourite.

Just before the interview with China Economic Net began, one Chinese men bought a multi-color tourmaline necklace for his wife at RMB 2,000 with satisfaction from this booth.

According to Faizan Ahmed, for the gems of the same quality, his price is usually 20% to 30% less than the Chinese one, and the CPFTA Phase II makes the price more competitive.

“The export tariff has been eliminated and we only needs to pay VAT now. Previously the maximum tax rate is 32%,” he said.

Increasingly more Pakistani entrepreneurs are aware of the importance of building brands. Winza, a Pakistani jewellery brand attracted large attention from Chinese netizens even before the expo kicked off not only because of its Kashmir sapphire and Swat Royal Green emeralds but also the delicate and elegant design.

“As an enterprise, we are creating our own culture of design. I’m from Pakistan, and I take Pakistan as our cultural ‘Intellectual Property’ (IP).

As a Pakistani now living far away from my motherland, what I am doing is also promotion of Pakistan,” Aqeel Ahmed Chaudhry, founder of Winza, said with love for his country.

When it comes to his understanding of branding, he views building a brand as creating a standardized and responsible system for customers as well as the company itself for long-term development.

“Jewellery is a kind of cultural and historical inheritance, and branding will give it better protection,” he further explained in fluent Chinese.

To avail more business opportunities in China, many Pakistani jewellery and handicraft exhibits are designed to cater to the cultural taste of the Chinese. If someday you find them in a Chinese shopping mall, you will never know that they are from Pakistan by the appearance.

An artwork from Winza shaped in dragon, an auspicious mythical creature in Chinese culture, is specially designed for the Chinese market. A tea set made from oynx and handicrafts with traditional Chinese characters are also eye-catching.

Pakistani jewelers are now in close cooperation with Chinese designers and manufacturers. They flexibly decide who to design and where to process to achieve the most satisfactory result and maximum profit.

The ongoing CIIE will be held till November 10. Pakistani exhibitors are expected to return from a fruitful journey.

With Pakistan’s exports to China rise via China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC)’s progress, more Chinese people will fall in love with the soul-stirring beauty of Pakistani jewellery.

From PASSD, Muhammad Ali Shehzada, Secretary PASSD, Dr. Ismat Tahira, Additional Secretary PASSD along with senior officials also joined the meeting.

Chairing the meeting, Dr. Sania said, “The meeting is part of regular Ehsaas reviews to assess status of compliance and progress against the Governance and Integrity Policy baseline before final one-year stock take that will be conducted in Dec 2020.” She then continued, “Implementation of the Ehsaas Governance Policy and Observatory is underway since last year. Since the roll out of the governance policy and observatory, the Ehsaas entities have shown improvements in the execution of the governance reforms and we are trying to make their systems as robust as possible. Transparency and integrity is at the heart of policy and observatory.”

In November 2019, Poverty Alleviations and Social Safety Division formally began the execution of the Ehsaas Governance and Integrity Policy and Observatory, following its approval by the Cabinet. The policy is premised to ensure that organizations involved in delivery of welfare are effective and responsive to the needs of the disadvantaged populations. The Governance Observatory assists as an execution and tracking instrument for the Ehsaas Governance and Integrity Policy and it engages all ancillary organizations to adhere to the Ehsaas values and principles in their true essence.

To drive forward a transparency and integrity revolution, the policy stipulates a range of measures around how governing board should operate, which policies and legal instruments are critical, and the significance of conflict of interest and whistleblowing. It also outlines the organizational framework to reinforce integrity through risk management and assurance, maintenance of risk registers, appointment of accountability officers; error, fraud and corruption frameworks, IT security systems, solidification of financial and fiduciary systems, procurement systems, access to information, electronic filing, development of workplans, and creation of credible data sets. Also, the policy strongly aims to abolish discretionary powers.

The policy also specifies that by the end of four years, PASSD will strive to use blockchain technology driven systems to safeguard data transparency and integrity particularly for the registration of assets, verification of identity and the tracking of transactions.

Trade union movement takes an active part in the formation of a new Uzbekistan

In recent years, when it comes to Uzbekistan – the most dynamically developing state in Central Asia – the international community is increasingly using the term “New Uzbekistan”.

This is due to large-scale reforms carried out in all spheres of the country’s life under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

The election of Uzbekistan in October this year to the UN Human Rights Council (HRC) was a vivid confirmation of the renewed image of the country and international recognition of the democratization processes taking place in it. It is noteworthy that among the newly elected members of the HRC, Uzbekistan became the country that received the largest number of votes – it was supported by 169 states.

Today, the state is taking all measures to achieve the goals of the Action Strategy for the priority areas of development of Uzbekistan in 2017-2021.

The Federation of Trade Unions of Uzbekistan actively participates in these processes, which, being the largest non-governmental public organization in the country, unites 14 branches and 14 territorial associations with a total number of members of more than 5.5 million people.

Moreover, today the Federation of Trade Unions of Uzbekistan, as a member of the General Confederation of Trade Unions, acts as an independent and equal social partner of the Government in matters of labor protection, ensuring the rights and freedoms of workers.

This is largely because, for the first time in the history of independent Uzbekistan in 2019, trade unions managed to achieve the adoption of the law of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On Trade Unions”, which was highly praised by the International Labor Organization (ILO).

The adoption in 2016 of the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On labor protection” in the new edition also contributed to the increase of the public authority and social role of the Federation. Also, a positive role was played by the country’s ratification of the ILO Convention “On Freedom of Association and Protection of the Right to Organize in Trade Unions” and Uzbekistan’s accession to the Protocol to the ILO Convention “On Forced Labor”.

These documents endowed the trade unions of Uzbekistan with unprecedented rights and powers in the field of labor protection, allowing them to actively support and contribute to the implementation of dynamic reforms and transformations in all spheres of life of the state and society.

Thus, finally, the role of the country’s trade unions has been raised to the highest level, even when compared with the standards of the International Trade Union Confederation. And we can state that today in the new Uzbekistan fundamentally new contractual-legal mechanism for protecting the socio-economic rights of workers has been created and is starting to operate actively.

In particular, based on recent practice, the Council of the Federation of Trade Unions signed a General Agreement for 2020-2022 with the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Confederation of Employers of the country, which was put into effect and regulates cooperation between partners on socio-economic issues.

An indicator of the active participation of trade unions in the transformation processes is the growth in the number of sectoral agreements concluded, an increase in direct and indirect incomes of workers received through collective agreements per employee. Income, in particular, increased from 1.5 million (approximately $150) to 5 million 100 thousand soums (approximately $ 500).

Thanks to the efforts of trade union bodies and the support of the head of state, overdue wage arrears for the period between 2016 and January 1, 2020, were reduced by more than 6 times, and today they have been practically eliminated. 90% of the problems of women raised in appeals to trade unions have been resolved.

In recent years, trade unions, in close cooperation with the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Population, as well as territorial authorities, have made significant progress in the fight against forced labor, including child labor.

As a result of constant monitoring during the cotton season of 2020, the involvement of employees of budgetary organizations, educational and health care institutions, students and schoolchildren in the harvest has been practically eradicated. This is highly appreciated by several international non-governmental organizations, as well as human rights activists.

Besides, the trade unions of Uzbekistan began to pay more attention to the improvement of the health of workers and their families. Today the Federation has a wide network of health resort institutions – 21 sanatoriums and 2 rest houses, 23 children’s health camps. Over the past three years, about 600 thousand citizens have been rehabilitated in sanatoriums and rest homes of the Federation system, of which about 45 percent have improved their health on preferential vouchers. 11 thousand 655 people were recovered free of charge. Every year in the summer period in children’s health camps more than 350 thousand children have a vacation on preferential vouchers, and 4,500 children have a free vacation in the Tashkent region for children from low-income families living in remote areas of the Republic of Karakalpakstan and Khorezm region.

In recent years, a number of new sanatoriums has been built and commissioned in the republic, which have made it possible not only to significantly improve the quality of health improvement for workers, but also to create new jobs. In particular, in the Muinak region of Karakalpakstan, a children’s health camp “White Steamer” was built and started operating, which is one of the best in Central Asia in terms of its equipment and amenities. The Water Sports Palace in Namangan was commissioned, as well as the sanatoriums “Khuzhaipok” in Surkhandarya, “Yangiyer” in the Syrdarya and “Kuhinur” in the Tashkent regions, built using the most modern technologies in a picturesque place.

High results are also shown by athletes who support sports associations of trade unions. In a short period of time, they won 26 gold, 20 silver and 17 bronze medals at the Asian and World Championships, and received 7 licenses to participate in the upcoming Summer Olympics in Tokyo.

As part of its activities, the Federation of Trade Unions of Uzbekistan holds public and educational events, in particular, the Forum of Trade Unions of Uzbekistan under the slogan “Unite for the Prosperity of the Country!”

The Women’s Council and the Youth Association of the Federation of Trade Unions also radically restructured their activities in the spirit of new tasks in building a renewed Uzbekistan.

Thus, at the initiative of the Women’s Council of the Federation of Trade Unions in 2019 in Samarkand, an international seminar “Socio-economic situation of women and the participation of trade unions in achieving gender equality” was held with the participation of representatives of international organizations and several foreign trade union centers.

To increase attention to the problems of women, to address their needs for employment, social protection, on the initiative of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, on March 7 of this year, a call center “Hotline” with short number 1211 began its activity.

The main purpose of the Helpline is to help women solve their daily concerns, to draw the attention of officials to their pressing problems, and also to ensure the fulfillment of their appeals since the fate of a person is behind every appeal. In particular, to date, the Call Center has received more than 50 thousand calls, of which about 87 percent were resolved following the established procedure, a little more than 13 percent were taken under control.

At the initiative of the Federation Youth Association, the Tashkent International Forum of Trade Union Youth “TEMP-2019” was held in June last year, in which young people from 20 countries and activists of trade unions of Uzbekistan took part.

Close cooperation has been established with the national trade union centers of Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Turkey, Europe, Asia and Africa.

Cooperation with the International Labor Organization was raised to a new level, the practical result of which was a visit to Uzbekistan in December 2018 by a representative delegation of the International Labor Organization headed by Director General Guy Ryder.

At a meeting with the trade union activists of the republic, Guy Ryder highly appreciated the activities of the Federation of Trade Unions of Uzbekistan in such areas as participation in lawmaking, labor protection, protection of the rights and interests of workers, especially women and youth.

Biden gets more security as he edges toward win: report

Secret Service sends additional agents to his campaign headquarters

The US Secret Service has increased its protective bubble around Joe Biden as chances increased that he will be the next US president, the Washington Post reported Friday.

The Secret Service sent an extra squad of agents to Biden’s campaign headquarters in Wilmington, Delaware as expectations rose that the Democratic candidate would be able to declare victory over President Donald Trump as early as Friday, the Post reported.

The Secret Service, an agency under the Department of Homeland Security, is in charge or protecting the White House and senior government officials, visiting high officials, and others.

It had already deployed some agents to protect Biden around early July after he triumphed in the Democratic Party’s presidential primaries.

As a former vice president, Biden could have requested Secret Service protection before then, but reportedly did not.

If Biden becomes president-elect, Secret Service protection is expected to ramp up to a higher level.

President Donald Trump and Democratic challenger Joe Biden are battling it out for the White House, with four states yet to be called.

Shah Rukh Khan is expected to begin work on film Pathan later this November and is expected to carry on shooting well into the New Year.

Europa League: Tottenham’s Kane ‘delighted’ with 200th goal for Spurs

Striker crosses tally during 3-1 win against Ludogorets

Tottenham captain Harry Kane was delighted after scoring his 200th goal for the side in a 3-1 away win against Ludogorets in the UEFA Europa League 2020-21 on Thursday.

He opened the scoring for Jose Mourinho’s side with just 12 minutes on the clock when he headed home Lucas Moura’s corner to bring up his double century of Tottenham goals in his 300th match for the club.

“I’m delighted with that and I probably could have scored a couple more in that 45 minutes,” said Kane. “It’s a great milestone to reach and hopefully there are a few more to come.”

Lille’s Yusuf Yazici brought AC Milan and Zlatan Ibrahimovic down to earth with a bump on Thursday with all three goals in a 3-0 Europa League win over the seven-time European champions.

The 39-year-old Ibrahimovic had been one of the stories of the early part of the season after firing seven goals in four league games to take the Italian giants top of Serie A, but it was Yazici, who is yet to start in Ligue 1 this season, who stole the show with his hat-trick at the San Siro.

Yazici’s goals put Lille, who are unbeaten in all competitions this season, one point ahead of Milan who lost for the first time since football returned from the first coronavirus lockdown.

Celtic are bottom of Group H after being hammered 4-1 at home by Sparta Prague.

“I thought we could be more dangerous, but against such a fast team once we went 2-0 behind the game got complicated. They punished us for every mistake,” said Milan coach Stefano Pioli after his side’s 24-match unbeaten run came to an end.

“(Ibrahimovic) was not satisfied with the team’s performance nor his own.”

Yazici, 23, opened the scoring when he won and scored a soft-looking penalty in the 22nd minute.

He doubled the away side’s lead nine minutes after the break when his hopeful strike bobbled over Gianluigi Donnarumma’s early dive and then twisted the knife three minutes later when he confidently finished a counter attack.

Incredibly it was Yazici’s second Europa League hat-trick of the season following his treble in Lille’s 4-1 win over Sparta Prague in the opening round of fixtures, taking his European tally to six.

Kelechi Iheanacho was the star for Leicester City as they made it three wins from three with their 4-0 thumping of Portuguese side Braga in a match that was never in doubt from the moment the Nigerian opened the scoring in the 21st minute.

He collected his second with a long range effort three minutes after the break before providing the low cross for Dennis Praet to tap home the third and end the match as a contest.

James Maddison completed the scoring from close range with 12 minutes remaining as Brendan Rodgers’s went three points ahead of Braga at the top of Group G.

Fellow Premier League side Arsenal also maintained their 100 percent record with a 4-1 win over Molde of Norway.

Rangers were poised to make it three wins from three in Group D when they were 3-1 ahead at Benfica with 14 minutes remaining.

But despite losing Nicolas Otamendi to a straight red card with less than 20 minutes gone, two-time European champions Benfica fought back and in added time levelled when Darwin Nunez raced through and slotted home past Allan McGregor.

The pair are joined on seven points at the top of the group, four ahead of Lech Poznan who beat bottom side Standard Liege 3-1.

Qarabag lost 2-0 at Sivasspor to remain rooted to the bottom of Group I a day after their media manager was suspended by UEFA for reportedly calling for the killing of “all the Armenians, old and young, without distinction”.

The social media post in question came amid the conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia in Nagorno-Karabakh.

Roma took control of Group A with a thumping 5-0 win over Cluj that put the leaders three points clear of the Romanians and Young Boys while fellow Italians Napoli also won, 2-1 at HNK Rijeka, to move level on six points with Group F leaders AZ Alkmaar and Real Sociedad.

La Liga leaders Sociedad beat Alkmaar 1-0, leaving the group on a knife edge with three matches remaining.

Pakistan condemns Indian CDS Gen. Bipin remarks

DNA

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry on Friday strongly condemned Indian Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Gen. Bipin Rawat’s irresponsible and gratuitous remarks about Pakistan. The Indian CDS’s unabated anti-Pakistan vitriol is reflective both of his completely flawed understanding of Pakistan’s realities as well as his patently politicized approach.

His tirade is also illustrative of the RSS-BJP mindset — a dangerous mix of extremist “Hindutva” ideology and expansionist “Akhand Bharat” designs. It is a sad fact that this mindset has permeated the state institutions of India, including the armed forces.

The Indian CDS’s diatribe against Pakistan cannot divert attention from India’s myriad internal and external wrong-doings. As a consequence of the ‘Hindutva’ policies, religious places in India are regularly desecrated, mob lynchings take place with state complicity, and persecution of minorities and disadvantaged segments grows by the day.

Most notably, state-terrorism against innocent Kashmiris in IIOJK is pursued by India as an instrument of state policy.

Gen. Rawat would be well-advised to focus on his professional domain, rather than continuing to make a career out of anti-Pakistan rhetoric.

Bilawal’s statement on Nawaz Sharif is personal opinion: PML-N

ISLAMABAD, NOV 06 (DNA) – Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Friday has termed Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s remarks regarding the speech of former Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif during Pakistan Democratic Movement‘s (PDM) Gujranwala rally as his personal point of view.

While reacting to Bilawal Bhutto’s interview to international news corporation, PML-N spokesperson Marriyum Auranzeb stated that whatever Nawaz Sharif had said in his speech during PDM rally was based on facts. Bilawal Bhutto’s statement shows his own point of view, she told.

The reaction came after Bilawal Bhutto said that he was shocked to hear PM Nawaz Sharif directly accusing military leadership during his speech in PDM Gujranwala rally.

The PPP leader said that taking names of military leaders was Nawaz Sharif’s personal choice as he has his own party and rules. It was decided in the PDM agenda to use ‘establishment’ word and not to take name of any national institution, he told.

Bilawal Bhutto said that he is waiting for evidence by ex-PM to prove his allegations. Due to intensifying coronavirus situation, I am unable to meet the PML-N supremo. However, a formal discussion with Nawaz Sharif is required for complete details on this issue, he went on to say. = DNA
