There are fractions within PML-N, says Sheikh Rasheed

RAWALPINDI : Federal Minister for Railways Sheikh Rasheed on Friday predicted that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) will split up before December 30.

“I’m seeing Muslim League-Nawaz and Muslim League-Shahbaz in near future”, Sheikh Rasheed said while addressing a press conference.

The minister said that former prime minister Nawaz Sharif is not willing to return Pakistan as he is enjoying in London. PML-N leaders are hiding facts over the health of the ex-premier, he claimed.Rasheed predicted that the difference in the PML-N will start to emerge at the end of the ongoing month.  Replying to a question, he added that toppling of an elected government is not an easy task.

He added that the tender of the ML-1 project envisaging up-gradation of the railway infrastructure will be opened by the 20th of this month.

The minister said this project will provide 150,000 job opportunities. He said that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government will complete its mandated tenure and serve the masses.

Last week, Sheikh Rasheed had said that the role of the former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and former president Asif Ali Zardari has ended in the politics of Pakistan.

Quaid-e-Azam’s 72nd death anniversary being observed today

KARACHI : The 72nd death anniversary of the Founder of Pakistan, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, is being observed by the nation on Friday.

A special ceremony of Quran Khawani and Fateha will be held at the Quaid-e-Azam’s mausoleum in Karachi in this connection, whereas, people from different walks of life will visit the mausoleum to lay floral wreath on his grave.

Moreover, educational institutions and political, social and cultural organisations will organise special programmes to mark the day.Muhammad Ali Jinnah passed away on September 11 – 1948 shortly after achieving freedom for the nation.

President Dr Arif Alvi arrived at Quaid-e-Azam’s mausoleum in Karachi today and laid a floral wreath at his grave and offered Fateha. The president also recorded his impressions in the visitors’ book.

While talking to journalists, he urged following rules and teachings of Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah for achieving the goals to become a successful nation, Radio Pakistan reported.

Dr Alvi said that the volume of the determination and resolve of Pakistanis can be approximated from the way the nation has defeated the coronavirus spread when most developed nations are still struggling to deal with the pandemic.

Court extends Safdar Awan’s interim bail in NAB office clash case

LAHORE : An anti-terrorism court of Lahore on Friday extended interim bail of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader, Captain retired Safdar Awan till September 16 in a case related to violent clashes outside National Accountability Bureau’s (NAB) office.

On August 12, chaos was witnessed outside NAB office after PML-N workers clashed with police personnel ahead of party leader Maryam Nawaz’s appearance before the bureau.

The plea was taken up by ATC Judge Arshad Hussain Bhutta. After hearing the arguments from both sides, the court extended interim bail of Safdar Awan till September 16.

It may be noted that on August 12, Lahore police had registered a case against 300 Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) leaders including its Vice President Maryam Nawaz on the complaint of the National Accountability Bureau after violent clashes outside the NAB office.
The case carried sections dealing with the attack on NAB office in Lahore, interference in official duty and other related sections pertaining to violent acts.

‘LEAs given task by PM to arrest culprits behind rape incidents’

ISLAMABAD : Federal Minister for Water Resources and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lawmaker in the National Assembly, Faisal Vawda, has met Prime Minister Imran Khan where he raised the rape incidents of a minor girl, Marwah, in Karachi and a mother of two children in Lahore.

Faisal Vawda said in a statement that PM Imran Khan has taken notice of the rape incidents took place in Karachi and Lahore. He said that such incidents are shameful for the civilised socities and tasked law enforcement agencies (LEAs) to immediately arrest the culprits.

The PTI’s Member of the National Assembly (MNA) Faisal Vawda demanded PM Imran Khan for introducing a law for hanging the convicts of rape cases. He asked the premier to set exemplary punishment for those involved in rape incidents.

Vawda also suggested bringing a law for ‘castration’ of such culprits. He said that the premier expressed aims for imposing strict penalties against the criminals besides taking maximum steps for the protection of human rights.

The lawmaker requested all parliamentarians to set aside political differences for legislating strict penalities against the rape convicts in order to ensure the protection of women in the country.

The terrorising incidents of rape and murder of a minor girl, Marwah, in Karachi and gang rape of a woman in front of her children in Lahore’s motorway have shaken the nation who are now demanding to publically hang the culprits.

‘#JusticeForMarwah’ had become a top trend on Twitter as the nationals raised voice for strict action against the culprits over the cold-blooded killing of a five-year-old girl after raping her in Karachi. Investigators had said that the girl had a head injury which apparently led to her death with her face burned to mangle her appearance.

Moreover, Punjab police launched an extensive investigation into the Gujjarpura gang rape case with at least 20 teams led by the DIG Investigation Lahore probing the matter to ensure the culprits are brought to justice sooner than later.

China names Nong Rong as new ambassador to Pakistan

ISLAMABAD (DNA): China has designated Nong Rong as a new ambassador to Pakistan who is currently a minister in a provincial government, media reported on Thursday.

Chinese Ambassador for Pakistan Yao Jing has been transferred back to headquarters in Beijing for the next posting.

He has been transferred two months before completing his three-year tenure.

The newly nominated ambassador, Nong Rong, is a political appointee who has expertise in trade and commerce.

Unlike the outgoing ambassador, he didn’t serve in Pakistan before the appointment.

Ambassador Yao Jing has served in Pakistan thrice in various capacities and in aggregate stayed in Islamabad for eleven years.

Rice exporters organize training to protect rights of agri women’s children

ISLAMABAD, Sep 10 :Top rice exporters of Pakistan Thursday arranged training workshop to train the women as well as rice millers to sensitize them regarding basic Juvenile right of the children of female agriculture workers, especially the rice transplanters.

“We are providing best facilities for promoting decent working conditions for the rice transplanter women and their children in rice value chain from agro-fields to rice mills, said Zafar Iqbal, Country Manager of Sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) of Rice Partners Ltd (RPL), a rice exporting and philanthropic organization, addressing the training workshop here.

The organization including Rice Partners Ltd (RPL) in collaboration with Helvetas Pakistan organized the one day training workshop on “Promoting Decent Working Conditions to Ensure Sustainable Rice Production”, by Rice Partners Ltd (RPL), Helvetas Swiss Intercooperation here.

Zafar Iqbal said that at the training workshop they were engaging the women workers of the rice fields and 40 rice mills coming from major rice businesses of Punjab province.

He said that the organization had trained 30,000 of female rice transplanters and also provided them awareness on juvenile rights.

He said that RPL had prioritized to provide awareness for protection of rice transplanter children, including the families working in whole rice value chain to provide them decent working environment.

Zafar said RPL was a social impact business that worked with thousands of growers of Basmati rice in Punjab to provide them with the best growing practices for enhancing their yields and livelihoods.

He said around 15000 families were engaged only from district Sheikhupura and more then 100,000 from all over the Punjab.

Usually all members from a family take part in transplanting work, he added.

Zafar said that children from those families also accompanied their parents.

While addressing the training workshop, renowned senior child rights activist and consultant Sadia Hussain said that physical, emotional and psychological health of children belonging to agriculture workers must be considered for conducive working environment in rice value chain.

She said that physical and mental torture not badly impacted the children’s life but also suffered the working condition.

She said that the protection of children and vulnerable adults was a collective societal responsibility.

Sadia Hussain said that the right to name, health, food, education, freedom of expression and association children must be protected besides the right to respect regardless of race, colour and creed.

She such children must be protected against abuses and violence like forced labor and any physical or emotional torture.

Senior Corporate and Development sector Consultant, Annan Waffi Qureshi on the occasion said that juvenile right should be prioritized in every sector including agriculture side.

He highlighted the mode of communication to create the awareness for children right and their protection, especially who are belongs to the families working in rice value chain.

On the occasion, Field Manager, Helvetas Swiss Intercooperation, Zahid Rehman said that they were providing these children with the moveable backpack canopies covered from all sides to avoid the insects and provision of shelters along with the dry food, repellents, and water coolers in rice cultivation region of the Punjab.

Zahid Rehman said that working conditions of the farm were highly hazardous and exposed children to several risks of insect bites, injuries and infections, exposure to extreme heat and pesticides without any shelter.

Similarly, for the larger group of families working jointly a farm level, a bigger shelter tent along with solar plates, fans, air cooler, water cooler and first aid boxes were provided to keep the children in a healthy and safe environment at farm level, he said.

More than 40 rice mills including organizations from development sectors, academia and media personnel participated in the event.

AIOU extends MSc, MBA, BS date of admissions

ISLAMABAD, Sep 10 : Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) has extended the date of admissions up to September 18 for continuing students of MSc, MBA and BS (face to face) programmes for the semester Autumn 2020.

Professor Dr. Zia Ul-Qayyum, Vice Chancellor, AIOU has approved the extension in last date of fee deposit for continuing students of the said programs from September 8 while presiding over a meeting in this regard, said a press release on Thursday.

All the regional centres of the university have been directed to facilitate the students in depositing their admission forms, while designated bank branches (MCB, NBP, ABL, FWBL) have also been informed to accept admission fee of the students with additional charges of rupees 500/- .

All out efforts being made to improve standard of education in country: Shafqat

ISLAMABAD : Federal Minister for Education & Professional Training Shafqat Mahmood has said that all out efforts are being made to improve standard of education in the country.

Talking to the Sindh Minister for Education Saeed Ghani in Karachi on Thursday, he said timely step are being taken to resolve the problems in education sector caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

On this occasion, Saeed Ghani said with the consultation among all the provinces on education year, curriculum and other issues, the standard of education in the country can be further improved.

Kashmir to remain on UNSC agenda until resolution: FO

ISLAMABAD : Pakistan on Thursday said that India must accept the fact that Jammu and Kashmir dispute will remain on the agenda of UN Security Council, till its resolution.

Addressing a weekly news briefing in Islamabad on Thursday, Foreign Office Spokesperson Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri said the only way India can get the Jammu and Kashmir dispute off the UN Security Council agenda is by letting the Kashmiris exercise their inalienable right to self-determination through a free and impartial plebiscite under the UN auspices.

He said the international community must play its role in making India comply with its obligations under international law, the UN Charter and the relevant UN Security Council Resolutions.Regarding the latest incidents at the China-India border, the Spokesperson said Pakistan has been repeatedly emphasizing that India’s expansionist, and unilateral actions, particularly since 5 August last year, have been imperilling regional peace and security.

He said the latest situation at the China-India border areas validates Pakistan’s concerns and demonstrates that India’s belligerence remains a major impediment in resolving the issues at its borders.

He said we believe that it is imperative that China-India border issues are resolved in line with agreed understandings and bilateral agreements through established mechanisms and peace and tranquillity is maintained in the region.
