India violates UNSC resolutions, Charter principles: Munir Akram

UNITED NATIONS, JAN 04 (DNA) – Pakistan has reacted to some tall claims made by India about its role in international affairs in a video timed with New Delhi’s assumption of a non-permanent seat on the Security Council, saying it stands in violations of the 15-member body’s resolutions and UN Charter principles.

“It’s true colours will be revealed during its 2-year tenure on the Security Council,” Ambassador Munir Akram said of India, when asked to comment on its assertion that India was a voice of reason and votary of international law.

“Indians are all talk,” the Pakistani envoy said, adding, “Let’s see how well they serve the developing countries!”

On its part, he said Pakistan is doing this in action — Prime Minister Imran Khan’s debt initiative, creation of Special Drawing Rights (SDRs), 10-point priority financing agenda, halting illicit financial flows from developing countries and sustainable infrastructure investment facility.

Those initiatives, he added, came from Pakistan. “What has India done?,” Ambassador Akram asked, pointing out that it opposed new SDRs and wider and longer debt suspension in the G20 (industrialized countries) discussions.

“It (India) has not opposed sanctions against Iran or US unilateral coercive measures against other developing countries,” the Pakistani envoy added. “It’s proposals on U.N.Security Council reforms are undemocratic and self-serving, aiming to secure permanent membership of the Security Council and other advantages for itself,” he said. =DNA

Govt. asked to take notice of rising wheat prices in open market

DNA

ISLAMABAD, JAN 4 – Abdul Rehman Khan, Vice President, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) said that taking notice of wheat shortage and rising flour prices in the country, Prime Minister Imran Khan had allowed the import of wheat and the quota of flour mills was also increased that helped in preventing any flour crisis and bringing down flour price gradually. However, he said that now the price of wheat in the open market has again reached its highest level, which was a cause of great concerns.

He was afraid that if the price of wheat in the open market was not controlled, the pressure on flour mills would increase and in such circumstances, the price of flour in the open market would not remain under control. He stressed that the government should take urgent notice of this deteriorating situation and take immediate remedial measures so that the people could be saved from the problems of high flour prices.

Abdul Rehman Khan further said that Flour Mills Association has always cooperated with the Food Controller of the area and Punjab Food Department in strict enforcement of official rate. He said that 15 sales points have been set up in Islamabad where flour was sold at official rate while District Food Controller and his team was regularly checking these sales points to ensure price control.

He further said that about 70 sales points have been set up in Rawalpindi while flour was sold at official rates in 16 Sasta Bazaars. However, he demanded that the government should take immediate notice of the shortage of wheat as the rising wheat price in the open market would increase the pressure on the quota of flour mills and lead to further increase in the price of flour that would hike the miseries of the common man. He further emphasized that the government should act proactively to avert any wheat or flour crisis in the country.

It is interesting to see that as many as 16 countries are to join this initiative.

In event of Iran-China cooperation, CPEC can take a new look. He discussed, that this is the time for Iran to join CPEC. The geostrategic position of Iran can add to the value of CPEC projects. He further stated that Iran has found a partner in the form of China which is strong enough in the east to counter the west.

He suggested, for further strengthening of bilateral cooperation, a new entry point with Gwadar between Iran and Pakistan has been initiated which is the second border crossing between both countries. Transcontinental railway project between Pakistan-Iran-China has also been agreed in the recent past.
