Pak vs NZ: New Zealand pummel Pakistan, win second T20 and series

New Zealand easily chased down Pakistan’s 164-run target, pummeling the Pakistani pace attack and winning the match, as well as the three-match series 2-0.

Kane Williamson returned to the New Zealand squad in excellent fashion, scoring an impressive 57 runs from 42 balls while Tim Seifert was the pick of the batsmen, scoring 84 runs from 63 balls.

Faheem Ashraf was the only Pakistani bowler to pick up a wicket, when he dismissed Martin Guptill. Since then, there was no looking back for New Zealand who reached the target in the last over, with four balls to spare.

Earlier, the Men in Green had chosen to bat first against New Zealand in the second T20 match of the series on Sunday. Pakistan clash against New Zealand today after losing the first one on Friday.

After hitting a massive six off Tim Southee, Pakistani pinch-hitter Haider Ali departed cheaply. A few deliveries later, Haider was joined by Abdullah Shafique in the pavilion, who was dismissed without scoring a run.

Pakistan skipper Shadab Khan and Faheem Ashraf both floundered against New Zealand’s pace attack, getting dismissed for 4 runs each before Hafeez took to the crease.

The veteran batsman, often criticised for being too old, let his bat do the talking, hitting New Zealand pacers all over the ground for cheeky fours and handsome sixes.

The green shirts will look to shake off the rust as they take on the Kiwis while the black caps will look to wrap up the series by notching another win today.

The match will be played between the two sides at Seddon Park, Hamilton. The second fixture between Pakistan and New Zealand also marks the return of Kane Williamson to the squad, who had left the series midway after becoming a father.

New Zealand defeated Pakistan by five wickets in the first T20I of the series which was played on Friday.

Pakistan scored 153 runs for nine wickets in 20 overs, leading a fightback after losing quick wickets earlier on during the match while New Zealand made 156 runs for five wickets in 18.5 overs, with seven deliveries to spare.

New Zealand’s debutant Jacob Duffy was declared ‘Man of the Match,’ after he took four wickets for 33, helping his side set up a five-wicket win.

Commenting on the defeat, Pakistan skipper Shadab Khan had said the team could not grab more runs because of a slow-paced game in the beginning.

Senior Indian Diplomat Summoned to Register Pakistan’s Strong Protest Over Ceasefire Violations by India

Islamabad, 20 Dec 2020 : A senior Indian diplomat was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs today to register Pakistan’s strong protest over ceasefire violations by the Indian occupation Forces along the Line of Control (LoC) on 19th December 2020, resulting in serious injuries to an innocent civilian.

Due to indiscriminate and unprovoked firing by the Indian occupation forces in Rakhchikri Sector of the LoC on 19th December 2020, 25 year old Sagheera d/o Muhammad Haneef , resident of Akhori village, sustained serious injuries.

The Indian occupation forces along the LoC and the Working Boundary (WB) have been continuously targeting civilian populated areas with artillery fire, heavy-caliber mortars, and automatic weapons. In 2020, the Indian occupation forces have carried out 3003 ceasefire violations to date, resulting in 27 shahadats and serious injuries to 250 innocent civilians.

Condemning the deplorable targeting of innocent civilians by the Indian occupation forces, it was underscored that such senseless acts are in clear violation of the 2003 Ceasefire Understanding, and are also against all established humanitarian norms and professional military conduct. These egregious violations of international law reflect consistent Indian attempts to escalate the situation along the LoC and are a threat to regional peace and security.

It was added that by raising tensions along the LoC and the WB, India cannot divert attention from the grave human rights situation in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu & Kashmir (IIOJK).

The Indian side was called upon to respect the 2003 Ceasefire Understanding, investigate this and other such incidents of deliberate ceasefire violations and maintain peace along the LoC and the WB. The Indian side was also urged to allow the United Nations Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP) to play its mandated role as per the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) Resolutions.

FEBR asks PM for extension in Income Tax filing deadline as filers’ returns reduced by 43% to 1.67m

ISLAMABAD : The Friends of Business and Economic Reforms (FEBR) on Sunday appealed to the Prime Minister for the grant of extension in date for income tax returns for the tax year 2020.

FEBR President Kashif Anwar said that PM Imran khan himself should take notice of the grave situation, as FBR’s last date for filing income tax returns has expired on Dec 08, 2020 while the taxpayers want some relaxation in the deadline in view of only 1.67 million income tax returns, which fell short of even last year’s figure by nearly 1.3 million.

“It is beyond understanding that despite a massive reduction in the number of income tax return filers for tax year 2020, the FBR has taken the stance that it will not grant any further extension in the last date for filing returns in spite of that taxpayers are facing difficulties of calculation errors on the IRIS portal, besides the working environment is not friendly due to the spread of coronavirus,” he added.

FEBR President urged PM Imran Khan, PM Advisor on Finance Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh and FBR Chairman Javed Ghani to extend the deadline for filing Annual Income Tax Returns from Dec 08 2020 to March 2021 until the corona pandemic doesn’t eases.

Kashif Anwar said that a large number of business community members have not been able to file their tax returns, mainly due to the effects of COVID-19 on the whole of the working environment. He further added that the second wave, which is more severe and requires strict observation of SoPs, has also significantly disturbed business activities all over the country. Furthermore, he added that the recent surge in COVID-19 has slowed down the usual economic and commercial activities.

He informed that there are also some discrepancies, currently faced by the filers, in the filing of Income Tax Return when a taxpayer is requested to file two types of returns relating to partnerships/importers and suppliers.

He said that till the expiry of the deadline only 1.67 million taxpayers submitted annual returns for tax year 2020 while in tax year 2019, the FBR had received a total of 2.96 million income tax returns. There was a reduction of 43% or 1.29 million in the number of return filers, which should be a matter of grave concern for Prime Minister Imran Khan.

He said that the government had promised to double the tax collection figure to Rs.8 trillion, which seems impossible looking at the number of the first two years in power.
