KASHMIR; A NUCLEAR TROUBLE SPOT BETWEEN INDIA AND PAKISTAN

By Muhammad Akhter Aslam

It is well-known to everyone that First World War resulted in devastating consequences; therefore, to maintain world peace, first ever international organization, League of Nations, was established in 1920. Begging of the Second World War put an end to the peace treaty. Protection of Human right has always been priority of the developed countries; so, another idea for collective cooperation emerged in 1945 which give birth to United Nations Organization.

This is matter of fact that this organization resolved many conflicting concerns of the countries. Promoting international peace and avoiding wars is one of the major concerns of this worldwide organization but unfortunately Security Council, the chief organ of UNO, has remained ineffective to execute certain resolutions over India in Jammu and Kashmir case. Indian threat to IIOJK and violation of Human rights is not only question mark for regional peace but also warning to stability of United Nations.

Kashmir issue is, now, talk of the global politics and bone of contention at international level. As this issue is between two nuclear-power countries; hence, its costs are expected far beyond the borders. Putting deaf ears over this issue is signal of peace demoting on the other hand, supporting Indian hegemonic steps will never constrain Pakistan to compromise on its minimum credible deterrence. It is Seventy-three historic conflict between two nuclear countries and its roots go to ignorant steps of Lord Mountbatten and Hindutva alliance at the time of separation. Kashmir was consisting of 80 percent Muslim population and majority was willing to be part of Pakistan. Kashmiris have all the cultural, geographic and religious explanations that connect them with Pakistan but brutality of Indian hegemons abused international notion of the human rights in IIOJK. This affiliation of Kashmiris with Pakistan showed real Indian picture.  Indian army started genocides against Muslims and common human right violation in Jammu, in the result of that, regional Mujahedin emerged to support Kashmiri Muslims. Nehru government crossed all the limitations of humanity and overrun Indian army into Kashmir. Pakistan, being supporter of Kashmiri rights, came forward to resist destructive outcomes but resultantly India started war against Pakistan.

To resolve the issue, United Nations recommended for plebiscite in Kashmir but India, knowing the results, turned away by giving unnecessary excuses. Furthermore, India held elections in 1954 and with approval of Kashmir assembly, India declared Kashmir as integral part of it. In reaction to that, UNSC passed resolution 122 that rejected the law and advocated the referendum in Kashmir. Though, after Indo-Pakistan nuclear blast testing, United Nations passed resolution-1172 and asked both rivals to minimize tensions and buildup trust. Indian, as habitual, simply put blind eye over this decision. Indian interference is violation of international law, recently Kulbhushan Yadav case and the dossier presented at press conference of authorities is live example of Indian illegal intervention policy. India always plays that game to divert public attention from Indian national issues but South Asian politics should not ignore the fact that India’s this policy will lead to greatest debacle in the region.

This region experienced four foremost wars between two countries. Recently in February 2019, Pakistan cracked two Indian warplanes MIG-21 and Pilot Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman was arrested. Knowing the fact that both are nuclear countries, Pakistan released the accused in order to give peace gesture in the region. This is time for UNSC to put way forward in Kashmir issue in accordance with the same resolution which India has been ducking for 73 years by using certain tactics and excuses. Knowing the fact, that step of Indian government is violation of all the resolutions of United Nations. The silence of UN on Indian move, taken on 5thAugust, 2019, weakens the stability of this international organization. United Nations knows that more thanone and half year passed since Indians’ unconstitutional move. It is abuse to human rights activist that Kashmiris are being behaved as prisoners for guilt since revoking of article 370 and 35 A.

In recent times, inhuman activities are being carried by Indian government. Pakistan, being Islamic state, will never leave Kashmir into ditch of unjust. Indian government has violated ceasefire on working boundary. Almost, ninety-two women, sixty-eight children and overall, two hundred seventy-six citizens are victimized in that brutal step by Indian army.

It is, hence, finalized thatfascist Modi government has taken unconstitutional actions that violate secular nature of Indian constitution. Current government of India promotes Hindutva and materializes religious amendments in their constitution which is, even, unacceptable to Indian minorities. Despite all this, Pakistan represents clear agenda favorable to Kashmiris. International institutions should have a duty to resolve this conflict and put serious actions against Indian immoral, inhuman and unjust activities.  Global players should be aware from the reality that outcome of this burning question will be staking not only regional peace but also global.

Babar, Imam star Pakistan down South Africa in first ODI

A crafty century from captain Babar Azam and a solid half-century from opener Imam-ul-Haq was enough for Pakistan in securing a three-wicket win in the first ODI against South Africa at the Centurion on Friday.

Chasing a tricky target of 274 to go 1-0 up in the three-match series, the visitors were off to a poor start as opener Fakhar Zaman went back to the pavilion after being bowled on the bowling of Kagiso Rabada.

Babar and Imam put on a match-winning partnership 177 runs for the second wicket off just 181 balls to put Pakistan in complete control of the match.

However, with the captain’s departure, the Men-in-Green suffered a mini collapse as they lost four wickets for just in the space of just 17 runs 37 balls.

However, vice-captain Shadab Khan and in-form wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan put on a solid 53-run partnership to take the team closer to the victory.

Rizwan departed after scoring 40 off 52 balls with the help of three fours.

The Men in Green kept making things difficult with reckless shots and dot balls.

However, Faheem Ashraf, after playing three dot balls in the final over, hit a boundary on the last ball of the match to secure the win.

Babar finished the Pakistan innings with the top score of 103 off 104 balls with the help of 17 fours whereas Imam scored 70 off 80 balls with the help of three fours and a six.

For South Africa, pacer Anrich Nortje was the most successful bowler on the day as he registered figures of 4-51 in his quota of 10 overs.

For his outstanding batting performance, captain Babar was named the player-of-the-match.

Rassie’s show

Earlier, Rassie van der Dussen’s maiden century in international cricket helped the Proteas in registering a competitive total of 273 for the loss of six wickets in their allotted 50 overs.

After being put to bat first by the visitors’ captain, the home team were in trouble early one as they lost the first four wickets for just 55 runs inside the first 15 overs.

However, from there on, it was all Van der Dussen’s show who played a brilliant knock and scored 123 not out off just 134 balls which included 10 fours and two sixes.

He was well-supported by veteran middle-order batsman David Miller who scored 50 off 56 balls with the help of five fours. The duo also added 116 runs for the fifth-wicket partnership off just 135 balls.

For Pakistan, pacers Shaheen Shah Afridi and Haris Rauf were the pick of the bowlers as they claimed two wickets each.

MAN CITY MAY NOT SIGN STRIKER DESPITE AGUERO EXIT: GUARDIOLA

Manchester City are unlikely to prioritise the signing of a new striker for next season despite all-time leading scorer Sergio Aguero leaving the Premier League club at the end of the campaign, manager Pep Guardiola said on Friday.

Aguero, who has netted 257 goals in 384 appearances and won four Premier League titles, one FA Cup and five League Cups at the club, is set to leave when his contract expires.

City have only one other central striker in Gabriel Jesus and reports in the British media have linked them with a move for Europe’s hottest striking talent – Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland – but Guardiola hosed down the speculation.

“I don’t know what’s going to happen but at these prices we’re not going to buy any striker,” Guardiola told reporters ahead of Saturday’s league trip to Leicester City.

“It’s impossible. We cannot afford it. All the clubs are struggling financially, us as well. We have Gabriel, Ferran (Torres) who has been incredible, Raheem (Sterling) as a false nine… Today there’s more chance we’ll not buy a striker.”

Guardiola heaped praise on former City striker Kelechi Iheanacho, who scored five goals in three games for Leicester in March to be named Premier League player of the month.

“Incredible. The quality was there, he was a young player here and I think with Gabriel we didn’t have enough space,” Guardiola said.

“He’s a fantastic person, we had a good relationship, and I’m glad to see him playing well. In the final third he has the right tempo, he’s so clear in front of the goal.”

Guardiola’s side are top of the league table with 71 points from 30 games, 14 points ahead of local rivals Manchester United who have a game in hand.

UKRAINE REPORTS RECORD DAILY HIGH OF NEW CORONAVIRUS CASES, DEATHS

Ukraine reported a record daily high of 19,893 new coronavirus cases over the past 24 hours, Health Minister Maksym Stepanov said on Friday.

He also said a record high number of coronavirus-related deaths – 433 – were registered in the past day compared with the previous record of 421 on April 1. It was the third day in a row that deaths had hit record highs.

Stepanov gave no reason for the jump in cases and deaths. Late on Thursday he said Ukraine had confirmed some cases of the novel coronavirus variant that was first discovered in South Africa.

Stepanov said 5,040 people were hospitalised over the past day, almost the same number as on Thursday.

Several biggest Ukrainian towns, including capital Kyiv, have already imposed a strict lockdown.

Ukraine has reported a total of 1,711,630 cases with 33,679 deaths as of April 2.

NO PLAN TO PRIVATIZE ANY OF ASSETS OF PIA: GHULAM SARWAR

ISLAMABAD, APR 02 (DNA) – The National Assembly was informed on Friday that there is no plan to privatize any of the assets of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA).

Minister for Aviation Ghulam Sarwar Khan told the house during question hour today that the present government is very keen to make the national flag carrier self-reliant and profitable entity.

Efforts are underway to improve the financial health of the airline by reducing its losses through various means. He said loss making routes have been closed and flights on profitable routes have been added which has resulted in reduction of losses.

Responding to a question, the Aviation Minister said eighty two pilots were dismissed for acquiring the licenses through unfair means. He said a transparent mechanism has now been evolved to ensure the issuance of licenses in a transparent manner.

An agreement to this effect has also been signed with the UK Civil Aviation Authority. He said the International Civil Aviation Authority will carry out an audit of our Civil Aviation Authority in July this year. He was confident this will lead to removal of travel restrictions on the PIA in the European countries and that the airline will regain its past glory.

The Minister for Aviation said Quetta and Dera Ismail Khan Airports will be upgraded and that eight new planes will be inducted in the fleet of PIA to further improve its performance.

Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Ali Muhammad Khan said Prime Minister Imran Khan has taken the initiative of ‘Live Call Program’ to directly connect with the people and listen to their problems.

He said this step of the Prime Minister should be appreciated. He said the Prime Minister is expected to again interact with the people via telephone next week. The House has now been adjourned to meet again on Monday at four pm. = DNA

U.S, IRAN TO GO TO VIENNA FOR INDIRECT NUCLEAR DEAL TALKS

WASHINGTON, APR 2 – Even without face-to-face talks, which Tehran has ruled out, the presence of both of Iran and the United States in the Austrian capital would mark a step forward in efforts to bring both sides back into compliance with the accord.

“Iran and the U.S. will be in the same town, but not the same room,” a European diplomatic source said. A Western diplomat said a shuttle diplomacy approach would be adopted.

Iran, China, Russia, France, Germany and Britain – all parties to the 2015 deal – discussed on Friday the possible return to it of the United States, and how to ensure full and effective implementation by all sides.

U.S. President Joe Biden‘s predecessor, Donald Trump, withdrew from the deal in 2018 and reimposed U.S. sanctions on Iran, prompting Tehran to violate some of the pact’s nuclear restrictions in retaliation.

The EU, which is coordinating efforts to revive the deal, said next week’s participants in Vienna would seek to “clearly identify sanctions-lifting and nuclear implementation measures,” including through convening meetings of relevant expert groups.

“In this context, the coordinator will also intensify separate contacts in Vienna with all JCPOA participants and the United States,” it added in a statement, referring to the acronym for the deal.

Iran rejects meeting with U.S. at Vienna nuclear deal talks

After Friday’s meeting, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi, a senior negotiator in the talks, said the United States would not be present at any session attended by Iran in Vienna and affirmed Iran’s stance on what needed to be done.

“Iran will suspend its steps (scaling back compliance with the deal’s terms) as soon as (U.S.) sanctions are lifted and this is verified,” Araqchi said, according to Fars.

The Biden administration has been seeking to engage Iran in talks about both sides resuming compliance. Under the accord, U.S. and other economic sanctions on Tehran were removed in return for curbs on Iran’s nuclear programme to make it harder to develop a nuclear weapon – an ambition Tehran denies.

German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas said it was good that talks were resuming, but time was of the essence.

“An agreement that is once again fully respected would be a plus for security for the entire region and the best basis for talks on other important issues of regional stability,” he said in a statement.

Russia’s ambassador to the U.N. atomic watchdog said Friday’s talks had given him the impression they were on the right track but the way ahead would not be easy.
