GWADAR, YANGPU PORT CAN HAVE SISTER CITY RELATIONSHIP: ENVOY

BEIJING, APR 7 (DNA) – Pakistani ambassador to China Moin ul Haque said Gwadar and Yangpu port in Hainan province can have sister city relationship.

According to Gwadar Pro on Wednesday, in an interview with Sansha Satellite TV, he said he is very optimistic about the cooperation between Pakistani cities and Hainan in the fields of port and shipping, education, and agriculture.

Gwadar Port is an important hub of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, which connects China’s western region and the Arabian Sea.

He said he attaches great importance to the profound friendship between China and Pakistan. The construction of Hainan Free Trade Port (FTP) is booming

While Yangpu Port is an important hub for the construction of Hainan FTP and a node for integration into the new western land-sea corridor. Haque said that Pakistan and Hainan have great potential for cooperation in the field of port and shipping.

“With the increase in trade volume between Pakistan and China and the increase in economic and trade exchanges, I think the two ports can all play a vital role in cementing trade between China and Pakistan,” Haque said.

China’s aviation authority unveiled a plan in 2020 to trial the Seventh Freedom of the Air in the Hainan FTP, a move aimed at boosting the opening-up of the air-transport industry.

Haque said that the seventh freedom will allow airlines from various countries to enter Hainan, and stimulate the development of Hainan’s civil aviation industry and the construction of Hainan FTP.

“I think that is a good development because Hainan is a tropical area, it’s very famous for its beautiful beaches and tropical forests. I think this policy will attract more tourists to Hainan and promote its development,” Haque said.

Haque is also very optimistic about bilateral cooperation in the field of education. “Agriculture is a very strong sector of Hainan, and Pakistan is also a strong agricultural country.

We would like more and more Pakistani students to come and study master and doctoral courses in the field of agriculture, and apply their studies to promote the development of Pakistan’s agriculture,” he said.

2021 marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Pakistan.

“China and Pakistan are all-weather strategic cooperative partners. The important thing is that we want to pass on our friendship to the next generation,” Haque said.=DNA

Pollock criticises De Kock ‘deception’ over Zaman run-out

Centurion, South Africa, April 7  : Former South African captain Shaun Pollock on Wednesday said he believed South African wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock was guilty of deception in the run-out of Pakistan batsman Fakhar Zaman during the second one-international in Johannesburg on Sunday.

But Pollock said he believed De Kock was not aware of a law which outlaws wilful attempts to “distract, deceive or obstruct” a batsman.

Speaking in his role as a commentator for television in the build-up to the third and final match in Centurion, Pollock said he believed the incident should have been sent to the third umpire for a ruling.

It happened off the first ball of the final over, which started with Pakistan needing 31 to win. Fakhar hit the ball to long-off and was run-out when he slowed down before completing a second run, with De Kock seemingly indicating that a throw from Aiden Markram should be aimed at the bowler’s end.

Fakhar was out for 193.

If the umpires had decided that there was deliberate deception, they could have awarded five penalty runs to Pakistan, which would have kept the touring team in with a chance of winning, with Fakhar remaining on strike.

“When you look at the incident and analyse it, it’s the action of putting the hand up, you can see the distraction for the batsman and the fact that he laughed afterwards,” said Pollock.

“I’m not saying that if he did that he knew it was wrong. I don’t think a lot of the players know about this rule,” said Pollock, who was on the MCC committee which brought in the rule to prevent the practice of fielders pretending they had stopped the ball in order to dissuade batsmen from taking second runs.

“Looking at it, it didn’t feel right and I think it was definitely done on purpose to try and deceive,” said Pollock. “If you slow it down, it looks as though he was trying something (but) I don’t think he was trying to cheat.”

Former Pakistan batsman Ramiz Raja said he believed it was a borderline case.

“There was no conclusive evidence that he was involved in serious mischief,” he said.

Raja joked that he believed deception was “part of a wicketkeeper’s DNA”. He recalled an incident in a one-day international against India in 1986 when Indian wicketkeeper Sadanand Viswanath “tried to make believe he had missed the ball and I was run out”.

Raja said the ultimate responsibility lay with the batsman. “The onus was on Fakhar to make his ground,” he said.

“You feel like a fool,” he said of the Pune incident.

“Not only the Indian fielders were laughing at me, so was Javed Miandad at the non-striker’s end.”

FIFA suspends Pakistan Football Federation

LAHORE  , April 07 :  The Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) has on Wednesday suspended the membership of the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) over internal dispute.

“The Bureau of the FIFA Council suspended the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) with immediate effect due to third-party interference, which constitutes a serious violation of the FIFA Statutes,” the football’s governing body said in its official statement.

“This situation was prompted by the recent hostile takeover of the PFF headquarters in Lahore by a group of protestors and an alleged decision by certain individuals to remove the FIFA-appointed normalisation committee of the PFF led by Haroon Malik and to hand over the leadership of the PFF to Syed Ashfaq Hussain Shah.

“FIFA issued a letter warning that, should the illegitimate occupation of the PFF headquarters not be lifted and the office bearers recognised by FIFA not be permitted free access to the building to carry out their mandate, the matter would be immediately submitted to the Bureau of the Council for decision.

“As the situation remains unchanged, the Bureau of the Council has decided to suspend the PFF.

“This suspension will only be lifted once FIFA has received confirmation from the normalisation committee of the PFF that the PFF’s premises, accounts, administration and communication channels are again under its full control and it can continue to carry out its mandate without further hindrance.”

Maryam bail cancellation plea: NAB given time to file rejoinder

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday took up a National Accountability Bureau (NAB) petition seeking cancellation of PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz’s bail in Chaudhry Sugar Mills case.

A two-judge bench headed by Justice Sarfraz Dogar heard the case. Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s daughter submitted her response to the national graft buster’s plea.

In her six-page reply, the PML-N vice president stated that the NAB summoned her for questioning in the case after a gap of 14 months. She alleged that NAB actions are aimed at stifling opposition leaders’ voice.

She claimed that the corruption watchdog has turned into an institution of political engineering and its chairman the government’s spokesperson. She said the LHC granted her bail on merit and requested the court to throw out the NAB plea seeking cancellation of the bail.
