The Acting President remarked that it was the shared responsibility of all of us to convince the world that the people of Balochistan were progressive and would work hard to find new avenues for development.

While lauding the premier Imran Khan efforts for Balochistan development, Sanjrani underlined that the Prime Minister of Pakistan is paying particular attention to the development and riches of Balochistan, which is why projects worth billions of rupees have been approved during his tenure, inter alia, including roads, the establishment of higher education institutions and countless other projects.

Muhammad Sadiq Sanjarani, while giving detailed answers to the questions regarding power outages and water issues, said that steps are being taken to solve the problems of electricity and water in Gawadar. While referencing his recent visit to Iran, Sanjrani apprised the students that detailed consultation on the aforementioned issues was held with the newly elected President of Iran. Sanjrani assured the delegation that a Permanent solution for electricity and water would be sorted out in a year.

While replying to a question, the Acting President said that with the cost of Rs. 18 billion, Gawadar would soon be connected to the National grid. Furthermore, with the installation of a 50MW solar plant, the electricity requirement of one district could be met. For the permanent solution of the water issue, a plan would be put in place to desalinate salted water, he informed. There are vast opportunities to generate electricity from alternative sources in the Province. Sanjrani pointed out.https://googleads.g.doubleclick.net/pagead/ads?client=ca-pub-7078513716629609&output=html&h=280&adk=664149105&adf=3241021232&pi=t.aa~a.2356292401~i.22~rp.4&w=696&fwrn=4&fwrnh=100&lmt=1628953792&num_ads=1&rafmt=1&armr=3&sem=mc&pwprc=2527759049&psa=1&ad_type=text_image&format=696×280&url=https%3A%2F%2Fislamabadpost.com.pk%2Fstudents-from-seven-districts-of-balochistan-visit-parliament-house%2F&flash=0&fwr=0&pra=3&rh=174&rw=696&rpe=1&resp_fmts=3&wgl=1&fa=27&adsid=ChEI8NPdiAYQheWVyL2imr3YARI5ADvDsOlm3WJRYZPy0nvO5qsLywSEL42c9VCVY87kNGq5_N1maNVLedATwUapgJFN25OxQz-_Hn-D&uach=WyJXaW5kb3dzIiwiNi4xIiwieDg2IiwiIiwiOTIuMC40NTE1LjEzMSIsW10sbnVsbCxudWxsLG51bGxd&tt_state=W3siaXNzdWVyT3JpZ2luIjoiaHR0cHM6Ly9hdHRlc3RhdGlvbi5hbmRyb2lkLmNvbSIsInN0YXRlIjo3fV0.&dt=1628953787637&bpp=5&bdt=4644&idt=5&shv=r20210809&mjsv=m202108100101&ptt=9&saldr=aa&abxe=1&cookie=ID%3D2cab8dd1d7a97507-2251d758ada700c6%3AT%3D1619371132%3ART%3D1619371132%3AS%3DALNI_MbCWjL6fpbAI7C_Q4Gb9OcZB0P5kA&prev_fmts=0x0%2C696x280%2C696x280%2C324x250&nras=5&correlator=6189640940539&frm=20&pv=1&ga_vid=759372461.1628953786&ga_sid=1628953786&ga_hid=1226964253&ga_fc=0&u_tz=300&u_his=40&u_java=0&u_h=768&u_w=1366&u_ah=728&u_aw=1366&u_cd=24&u_nplug=3&u_nmime=4&adx=141&ady=2526&biw=1349&bih=657&scr_x=0&scr_y=0&eid=20211866%2C21067496%2C31062297%2C31062165&oid=3&pvsid=1335779721479897&pem=180&eae=0&fc=1408&brdim=0%2C0%2C0%2C0%2C1366%2C0%2C1366%2C728%2C1366%2C657&vis=1&rsz=%7C%7Cs%7C&abl=NS&fu=128&bc=31&ifi=4&uci=a!4&btvi=4&fsb=1&xpc=yjlrW7WjHG&p=https%3A//islamabadpost.com.pk&dtd=4454

PRESIDENT GHANI VOWS TO PREVENT FURTHER INSTABILITY IN AFGHANISTAN

ISLAMABAD, Aug 14 (DNA): President Ashraf Ghani in a pre-recorded message to the nation on Saturday said that remobilization of the Afghan National Defence and Security Forces (ANDSF) is his top priority and that required measures are underway to reach this end, but he vowed to prevent further bloodshed in the country.

President Ghani thanked the Afghan forces for their bravery in defending the country and said he will not allow the imposed war to bring more devastation and death to the people.

“Under the current situation, remobilizing of the security and defence forces is our top priority and required measures are underway for this purpose,” Ghani said.

“I know that you are concerned about your present and future but I assure you as your president that my focus is to prevent further instability, violence and displacement of my people,” Ghani said.

“To do this, I have started widespread consultations within and outside the government, with political leaders and international partners and I will soon share the results with the people,” he elaborated.

“We have held extensive consultations with everyone within the government and international partners… Consultations are ongoing and the results will be shared soon,” the president said.

Ghani said he will not allow the imposed war on Afghans to bring further killings, loss of the gains of the last 20 years, destruction of public property and continued instability. Ghani said he would also find ways to help the thousands of people displaced by fighting across the country.

President Ghani’s plane came as Taliban fighters inched closer to the capital after routing the country’s defences over the past week. Afghan President Ashraf Ghani has addressed the Afghan people after keeping largely silent on the Taliban taking over 18 of the nation’s 34 provinces in eight days.

Until Saturday’s short address, Ghani and his government had been largely silent as more and more of the nation’s provinces, including Kandahar and Herat – the nation’s second and third-largest cities, respectively – fell to the Taliban.=DNA

PAKISTAN REJECTS INDIA’S DENIAL OF ROLE IN DASU TERROR ATTACK

ISLAMABAD, Aug 14 (DNA): The Foreign Office Spokesperson on Saturday categorically rejected the ‘absurd remarks’ by the Kulbhushan Jadhav, denying its involvement in the recent Dasu terrorist attack.

“Fully exposed, India typically resorts to sophistry, obfuscation and re-fabrication. Bland denials and regurgitation of a false narrative, however, will not change facts,” foreign office spokesperson said in a press release.

Pakistan had repeatedly presented irrefutable evidence of India’s active planning, promoting, aiding, abetting, financing and execution of terrorist activities in Pakistan, the spokesperson said.

Pakistan had presented a detailed dossier to the international community last year. Recently, it also presented evidence on India’s involvement in the Lahore attack.

The most familiar and undeniable face of India’s state-sponsorship of terrorism against Pakistan was commander Kulbhushan Jadhav — caught red-handed in March 2016, it was said.

“We reiterate our call on India to abjure the use of state-terrorism as an instrument of policy. Pakistan will continue to resolutely oppose Indian machinations imperiling regional peace and security,” the spokesperson said.=DNA

PAID-VOLUNTEERISM, CONSISTENT MONITORING URGED TO ELIMINATE PLASTIC SHOPPING BAGS

Islamabad, AUG 14 /DNA/ – The experts and concerned citizens urged the government authorities to take inclusive measures for the implementation of a ban on the manufacturing, distribution, selling and use of the plastic bags. A policy without implementation is a total failure of the government departments. Not only the ban on plastic shopping bags turned to be a joke, it speaks aloud about vigour and implementation capacity of the government departments.

They recommended paid-volunteerism for the engagement of citizens and youth in the implementation of the ban by promising some incentives to them. The Ministry of Climate Change (MOCC), Pakistan Environmental Protection Agency (Pak-EPA) and the Islamabad Capital Territory Administration (ICTA) in collaboration with the environmental groups in the federal capital shall develop a mechanism to actively engage stakeholders for the success of the ban on shopping bags.

Development Communications Network (Devcom-Pakistan) and DTN organized the webinar on Saturday to review the state of implementation of ban on the manufacturing, distribution, selling and use of the shopping bags in the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) two years after. The absence of government representatives reflected the level of their concerns on eliminating the plastic shopping bags.

Devcom-Pakistan Executive Director Munir Ahmed said the authorities have failed to implement the ban in letter and spirit. Initially they launched a faulty regulations in 2019 without incorporating the recommendations by the experts and citizens. Secondly, the citizens were not engaged in the implementation phase despite their willingness to volunteer their time and expertise.

He said the conflict between the parent ministry and the Pak-EPA has also been damaging the cause of sustainable environmental practices in Islamabad. The result is that the single use plastic bags are back in use along with polypropylene and nonwoven bags – the bigger menace. The alternate bags are completely out of the scene. Those who invested to provide fabric and jute bags have suffered huge losses.

Young environmental activist Anam Rathore no proper awareness campaign was executed before imposing a ban on the shopping bags, and after initial monitoring visits the authorities put the process on the will of the traders and hawkers. Instead of putting a stop on the source of production, the emphasis was on controlling the use. The shopkeepers and hawkers were fined while the large corporations remained free to their will. The authorities and some of the well-known environmental organizations are playing blind on the wrongdoings of the corporate sector, the big violators of the ban.

Environmentalist Azhar Qureshi said the international organization WaterAid provided PKR 20 million to the ministry for the implementation of the ban, but no concrete and sustainable mechanism was seen to eliminate the single use plastic bags. Now the ministry-supported manufacturers of the polypropylene bags have also joined the crooks.

Environmentalist from Quetta Dr Zahoor Bazai said the Balochistan government has finalized the strategy to ban the single-use shopping bags that would be launched soon with an aggressive awareness campaign. He said citizens’ productive engagement is vital for any such regulations.

Lahore-based Mobashar Khan said that their company has taken steps to introduce starch bags to replace the single-use plastic bags.

Moazzam Hashmi said the relevant ministry has miserably failed in successfully implementing its no-plastic bags policy.  Mainly because the policy designed was flawed, lacked the political will, implementation mechanism and the leadership mettle. The optics served only in gaining a quick yet partial and temporary attention that fizzled out in no time. What we are left with is a chaotic and confused situation where nobody knows the clear direction. Follow-up couldn’t be made either due to the dearth of alternatives plus the existing policy has added the cost of alternative shopping bags, which is not being encouraged by the shoppers for this particular reason.
