Azerbaijan MFA: Responsibility for the provocation, clashes and losses lies with the military-political leadership of Armenia

DNA

BAKU: On September 12, 2022, starting at late night, the units of the armed forces of Armenia held large-scale provocations in the directions of Dashkasan, Kalbajar and Lachin of Azerbaijan-Armenia state border.

According to the information provided by the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the sabotage groups of the armed forces of Armenia using the mountainous relief of the area and existing valley gaps carried out planting landmines on the areas between the positions of the units of Azerbaijan’s army and the supply roads in different directions. In addition, the Armenian armed forces fired intensively at the positions of the Azerbaijani Army in Dashkasan, Kalbajar and Lachin regions with different types of weapons, including mortars. As a result, there are casualties among the personnel of our armed forces, damage was inflicted to the military infrastructure.

In order to prevent further provocations by the armed forces of Armenia and military threats against the territory and sovereignty of our country, to ensure the safety of our military personnel, including civilian workers involved in infrastructure activities in the territory of Kalbajar and Lachin regions, the expansion of the scale of the military hostilities was averted, and in order to silence the firing points of the armed forces of Armenia definitive retaliatory measures were taken by the units of the Azerbaijani Army deployed in this direction. Moreover, the information disseminated by the Armenian side that Azerbaijan’s Army allegedly targets the civilian population, facilities, and infrastructure does not reflect reality, and is another disinformation spread by the Armenian side.

In general, during the last month, the provocations of the Armenian armed forces in the direction of Lachin, Gadabay, Dashkasan and Kalbajar regions of the state border, and cases of the firing of the positions of the Azerbaijani Army in those regions with various types of weapons, were intensive and systematic. At the same time, Armenia’s increase in militarization along Azerbaijan’s borders, deployment of heavy equipment and large-caliber weapons in the region indicated that Armenia was preparing for a large-scale military provocation.

At the same time, delaying the normalization process by Armenia with various pretexts, showing a destructive position in the negotiations conducted with international efforts, not withdrawing the Armenian armed forces from the territory of Azerbaijan contrary to the obligations within the framework of trilateral statements and agreements, continuing planting landmines, including recently produced in Armenia in the territory of Lachin, putting forward new conditions and disrupting the process of opening of communications and transport routes, as well as not responding to the peace agenda demonstrated that Armenia is not interested in the peace process and aims to undermine them.

The following aggression of the Armenian side against Azerbaijan is a gross violation of the fundamental norms and principles of international law, as well as the provisions of the trilateral statements signed between the leaders of Azerbaijan, Armenia and the Russian Federation, and the agreements reached between Azerbaijan and Armenia. These steps of Armenia are completely contrary to the ongoing normalization and peace process. At the time, when the Azerbaijan is carrying out large-scale restoration and construction works in these territories liberated from occupation, Armenia by allowing aggression once again demonstrates that it is hindering this process by all means.

Responsibility for the provocation, clashes and losses lies with the military-political leadership of Armenia. Any actions against the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Republic of Azerbaijan will be resolutely prevented.

Imran says may dissolve assemblies

Hints at a middle-way to appoint new army chief

Abid Raza

LAHORE, SEP 12 (DNA) — Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan on Monday has asked Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif several questions over PTI’s media blackout. He said the PTI may dissolve Punjab and KP assemblies in order to pave way for the elections adding PTI did not favour a change by force or through any violent moves.

In a TV talk show when he was asked to comment on the appointment of the new army chief Imran Khan said appointment of new chief at the hands of Zardari and Shehbaz does not make any sense. He said it is up to the lawyers to find out middle way to settle this issue. The PTI Chief did not deny outright when he was asked if he were in favour of General Bajwa’s extension.

“Question for Shahbaz Sharif: Are you, out of PTI-fear, responsible for media gags on us, threats & violence against journalists, and fake cases against them, forcing blackouts of PTI and myself from TV and YouTube, and the callous act of trying to blackout my flood relief telethon?” Imran Khan wrote in a series of tweets.

“We know your cabal of crooks & handlers are petrified of PTI popularity. But if you are not responsible for violating our constitutional rights & int commitments on freedom of press & speech, then it is your responsibility to inform the nation who is responsible for these actions?,” the PTI chairman asked.

Imran Khan stated that the “imported government” consisting of criminals and their patrons has degraded to a new level by stopping the broadcast of PTI’s flood fund-raising telethon organised last night, adding that the government also threatened the cable operators.

“This proves how much they are afraid of our growing popularity in the nation. They also know that due to the long history of looting, no one is ready to trust them in terms of money. So, to target me and my party, they tried to block the way of collecting donations for the flood victims,” he said.

“Despite all this we managed to collect 5.2 billion rupees in just 2 hours. I am grateful to everyone who donated, including Pakistanis living abroad, and especially those living in the United States,” Imran added.

Shehbaz thanks French govt for support

Ambassador of France Nicolas Galey calls on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif

Special Correspondent

ISLAMABAD, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Monday underscored that the scale and magnitude of losses in the recent floods were too big to be borne by Pakistan alone and said the international community’s support was of vital importance.

He expressed these views during a meeting with French Ambassador to Pakistan Nicolas Galey, who called on him.

The prime minister highlighted the extensive devastation caused by the recent floods across Pakistan and the government’s response to address the dire situation.

He said Pakistan despite having a negligible contribution to climate change, was among the most vulnerable to its devastation as manifested in the recent floods.

In this regard, he expressed gratitude to the French president for solidarity and support for the flood-stricken people, and for sending a relief flight carrying tents, water pumps and a team of doctors and nurses for the flood affectees, the PM Office Media Wing said in a press release.

The prime minister underlined that besides the immediate relief assistance, France could contribute to the government’s efforts in the rehabilitation and reconstruction phase.

He reaffirmed the importance Pakistan attached to its longstanding cooperative relations with France, both bilaterally and in the context of the European Union.

In the bilateral context, he further said that Pakistan was committed to further deepen its relations with France across all areas of mutual interest.

He hoped that the ambassador would contribute towards strengthening the bilateral relationship as well as explore new areas for cooperation, such as IT, start-ups, agriculture, water management and energy.

The prime minister said Pakistan looked forward to continued engagement with France to further deepen mutually beneficial relations.

CM Mahmood Khan held Shahbaz govt responsible for economic problems

From Our Correspondent

PESHAWAR, /DNA/ – Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mahmood Khan has said that the imported government has brought the country to brink of bankruptcy in a few months after comming into power adding that the imported government is unrepresentative of its people.  He stated that the conglomerate of incompetent rulers have destroyed the economy of country besides making the life of people miserable by unprecedented inflation. He further said that high inflation has made access to basic needs impossible for majority of the population with concerns running high over the absence of a clear roadmap to combat the current situation.

He expressed these views while addressing the Parliamentary Party Meeting of PTI held here on Monday.

Mahmood Khan said that, relief and rehabilitation of flood hit people is our collectively responsibility but unfortunately the imported government is also politicizing this national cause adding that it is a regrettable and reprehensible act of the imported government to politicize telethon held for fund raising to mitigate the sufferings of flood affectees.

He said that Imran Khan is the only leader who has the ability to steer the country out of the economic crisis and put the economy on the right track. He added that Imran Khan not only represents a particular area or province, the is the only leader that represents the entire federation due to which the popularity of Tehreek-e-Insaf and Imran Khan is increasing with every passing day. Mahmood Khan added that the corrupt mafia have now resorted to empty slogans and political victimisation void of any truth.

The Chief Minister made it clear that every worker of PTI stands by Imran Khan and will support leader on every front adding that PTI is the only national party which has deep roots in every province and region.

COAS Gen Bajwa should be given extension till election of new govt: Imran Khan

ISLAMABAD, SEP 12: Former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan on Monday while raising a question on the appointment of new army chief by those with just 85 seats said that Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa should be given extension until the new government is elected.

The former PM that they still have the option of dissolving the provincial assemblies, and they also have a few ideas and will push the federal government staying within the constitution.

He said that on one hand, a message is being conveyed that everyone should work together, while on the other hand, his party is being pushed against the wall. “I can bring the whole nation onto the streets,” he said.

Imran Khan said that the country is passing through a difficult phase and he decided to stage a peaceful protest and go home, adding that the elections could be delayed by around two months. “How can a fugitive with just 85 seats appoint a new army chief,” he asked, adding that the opponents could appoint a new army chief if they win the election and he would have no problem.

Floods and climate change

The PTI chairman said that the floods have wreaked havoc in the country and the torrential rains caused flooding from the Koh-e-Suleiman. The accumulated flood water in Sindh has ruined the rice crop, which could lead to a food crisis in the future, and the whole nation will have to help the flood affectees.

Imran Khan went on to say that Pakistan needs internal and external aid at this juncture as not a single dam has been constructed in the past 50 years. He further said the construction work on 10 dams was started during his government.

He said, “Climate change is causing destruction all over the world, that s why our government started the Billion Tree Tsunami, adding that the old forests in the country were destroyed and 10 billion trees are very necessary.”

Exchange rate

Regarding the exchange rate of the dollar, the former PM said that during the PTI government’s tenure, the dollar was at Rs 178 and the growth rate was witnessed at 6 percent, while overseas Pakistanis sent $31 billion in remittances.

Conspiracy

Khan said that a conspiracy was hatched to topple his government when the country was progressing, adding that he had warned those who had the power. “We said that no one would be able to manage the economy in case of instability at that time, adding that they had no plan to manage the economy, these people just wanted to get rid of their cases.”

The former PM said that he could not imagine that Allah would give him such popularity, adding that he had not seen such enthusiasm during the PTI’s public rallies in big cities. “We are benefiting from every effort of the government, even in Musharraf’s era, I have not seen such cruelty, fascism, people are being intimidated, people are getting calls from anonymous numbers, cable operators were threatened in a telethon,” he added. “My popularity is increasing, but I am afraid of economic conditions,” Imran said.

New elections

While reiterating his call for early elections, the PTI supremo said that the best option is to hold elections in the country to bring political stability, and we have the option to resign from all our governments.

“I can take the nation out on the streets whenever I want, and people come to the streets on my two-hour call, the condition of the common man is bad. It is not a difficult task to evacuate the people, but I decided on peaceful protests because the country is facing a difficult time and we cannot bear more damage,” he said.

COAS extension

Imran Khan admitted and stated that accepting the name of the Chief Election Commissioner was a big mistake, adding that the establishment had given a guarantee, but the Chief Election Commissioner left no room against us. “The CEC openly opposed and sabotaged the EVM, and if a transparent election is to be held in the country, voting must be done with a machine,” he added.

The former PM further added that intellectuals like Ayaz Amir were humiliated, adding that two TV channels were closed, but if Shehbaz Sharif is not taking responsibility for all these acts, then he should tell the nation who is behind these actions.

“Nations that are developing have a better merit system, and the main reason for China s development is the merit system. I said that Nawaz and Zardari are not qualified to appoint COAS because they are globally recognised corrupt leaders,” Imran took a dig at PPP and PML-N bigwigs.

Lashing out at PM Shehbaz Sharif, Imran went on to dub him [Shehbaz] as a “fugitive”, questioning how the person with 85 seats can have the power to select the COAS. Reiterating the narrative of a foreign conspiracy, Imran said that the current government came into power through a plot, but if the people in the coalition government came to rule by getting a mandate through the vote, then they [the coalition government] could go for the selection of the COAS. “I am ready to talk with everyone, but first we will talk about the general elections.” However, “they [coalition government] get upset when they hear about elections, so how could I talk to them,” said the former premier.

“I neither have any property abroad nor intend to run away from this country. These people live in the richest areas of London, but for me, Pakistan is a priority,” said the PTI Chairman. He also warned that the country will continue to face the worst situation if this government continues to rule. The PTI Chairman added that he has “no idea how long it will take Pakistan to get back on track if the country has to go bankrupt.” Imran claimed that there was no possibility of political stability in the country under the coalition government. Talking about Sindh by-elections, Imran went on to say that the province has been witnessing floods due to which by-elections could be delayed for two months. Sharing his thoughts about the western world, the former premier claimed that no one but him better knew the “psyche” of the western world.

Taking a dig at PM Shehbaz, Imran went on to claim that during Shehbaz Sharif’s conservation with the UN Secretary, he [Shehbaz] had said quite “weird” things. He further lashed out at the PM Shehbaz-led government and said that 60 per cent of Shehbaz’s cabinet are on bail. The Financial Accountability, Transparency, and Integrity (FACTI) panel has conducted research in the world, saying that the elite class, by looting money, sends money to western countries.

King Charles addresses parliament, heads to Scotland for queen’s vigil

EDINBURGH – King Charles called Britain’s parliament the “living and breathing instrument of our democracy” and pledged to follow his late mother Queen Elizabeth’s example in maintaining its independence in an address to both chambers on Monday.

Charles arrived at Westminster Hall in London to a fanfare of trumpets with his wife Camilla, Queen Consort, for the address – part of a series of pageantry-filled ceremonies following the queen’s death on Thursday at her holiday home in Balmoral, Scotland, after 70 years on the throne.

After the address, the new monarch set out for Edinburgh to join his siblings for a solemn procession when the coffin of Queen Elizabeth is taken to the city’s historic cathedral.

They will then take part in a vigil at St. Giles’ Cathedral, on the Scottish capital’s centuries-old Royal Mile, where the coffin will lie at rest before being flown to London on Tuesday.

Prime Minister Liz Truss – still in her first week in office – and parliamentarians from the House of Commons and the House of Lords – attended the address in Westminster Hall.

The Lord Speaker described the late queen as “both a leader to and servant of her people”.
Charles and Camilla sat on ceremonial chairs, with cavalry troopers in red tunics and plumed helmets standing to attention behind.

In his address, Charles said: “While very young, Her late Majesty pledged herself to serve her country and her people and to maintain the precious principles of constitutional government which lie at the heart of our nation. This vow she kept with unsurpassed devotion.

“She set an example of selfless duty which, with God’s help and your counsels, I am resolved faithfully to follow.”
The assembly sang “God Save the King”.

Charles, 73, who automatically became king of the United Kingdom and 14 other realms including Australia, Canada, Jamaica, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea on his mother’s death, is known for expressing his views on matters ranging from the environment to youth issues.

He has suggested that as king, he might have to moderate his style, in keeping with the tradition that the monarch keeps out of political matters.

CROWN OF SCOTLAND

On Sunday, the queen’s oak coffin, draped in the Royal Standard of Scotland, was taken by hearse on a six-hour journey from Balmoral through picturesque Scottish countryside, villages, small towns and cities to Edinburgh.

Tens of thousands of well-wishers lined the roads to pay their respects, while huge crowds, some in tears, gathered in Edinburgh to greet the cortege.

“I think when the queen’s coffin emerged from Balmoral Castle yesterday, I think that it was a moment of enormous significance,” John Swinney, Scotland’s Deputy First Minister told BBC radio.

“I think people drew breath, because what we’ve all been living through over the last few days suddenly became real, it became visible.”

When the coffin arrives at St. Giles’ Cathedral, the Duke of Hamilton and Brandon, the premier Scottish peer, will place the Crown of Scotland on it.

After a service, the coffin will rest there for 24 hours to allow people to pay their respects. A vigil will be mounted by soldiers from the Royal Company of Archers – the sovereign’s “Body Guard in Scotland”.

Charles, who will also visit the Scottish parliament and meet Scotland’s First Minister Nicola Sturgeon, will later mount a vigil at 7.20 p.m. (1820 GMT) along with other royals.

On Tuesday, the coffin will be flown to London where on Wednesday it will begin a period of lying in state until early on Sept. 19 – the day of Elizabeth’s state funeral – on a catafalque at Westminster Hall.

It will be guarded by soldiers or by Yeoman Warders – known as beefeaters – from the Tower Of London.

CROWDS EXPECTED

Members of the public will be allowed to process past the coffin, which will be covered by the Royal Standard with the sovereign’s Orb and Sceptre placed on top, for 24 hours a day until 6.30 a.m. (0530 GMT) on Sept. 19.

“Those wishing to attend will be required to queue for many hours, possibly overnight,” the government said in a statement. “Large crowds are expected.”

Meanwhile thousands of people continued to gather at royal palaces across Britain, bringing flowers. In Green Park near Buckingham Palace, where some of the tributes are being taken, long lines of bouquets now snake around the park allowing mourners to read the tributes.

“It’s really touched me, losing the queen,” Amy Gibbs, 43, said outside Buckingham Palace. “I think she was an amazing lady that did her absolute best and gave us everything.”
Britain last saw such a display of public mourning in 1997 after the death of Charles’s first wife, Princess Diana, in a Paris car crash.

In his first public comment since the queen’s death, Prince Harry – Diana’s son – paid an emotional tribute to his “granny” on Monday, saying she would be sorely missed not just by the family, but the world over.

“Granny, while this final parting brings us great sadness, I am forever grateful for all of our first meetings – from my earliest childhood memories with you, to meeting you for the first time as my Commander-in-Chief, to the first moment you met my darling wife and hugged your beloved great grandchildren.”

“We, too, smile knowing that you and grandpa are reunited now, and both together in peace,” Harry said, a reference to Elizabeth’s husband of 73 years Prince Philip who died last year.
