Indian hackers ‘snooped on Pak politicians, generals’

Web Desk

NEW DELHI: AN India-based computer hacking gang targeted Pakistani politicians, military officials and diplomats to eavesdrop on private conversations at the behest of Indian secret services, claimed an expose by The Bureau of Investigative Journalism and the Sunday Times.

The revelations based on the leaked documents and undercover work in India by the reporters of the said organisations revealed that private British investigators, through the hacking gang based in India, were spying at the behest of “autocratic” rulers on dozens of high-profile individuals.

According to the report, former military dictator General Pervez Musharraf was “the most famous Pakistan-related target”.

On Jan 10 this year, the email account of Fawad Chaudhry, who was serving as information minister at the time, was hacked and the hacker also “took a screenshot of Chaudhry’s inbox” seen by the Sunday Times and The Bureau.

TBIJ, Sunday Times report claims targets also included critics of World Cup in Qatar

“Jain’s team used malware to take over his computers and targeted the country’s senior generals as well as its embassies in Beijing, Shanghai and Kathmandu in a similar way,” it added.

The hacking gang, which operated under the name WhiteInt, was being run from a fourth-floor apartment in a suburb of the Indian tech city Gurugram and its mastermind is 31-year-old Aditya Jain — an occasional TV cybersecurity pundit.

As per the report, Mr Jain admitted that he had “hacked people in the past” but also claimed he “did not know some of the people named on his database and denied hacking the others listed”.

The report revealed that Mr Jain ran the network of hackers for seven years, who were hired by British private detectives to hack email accounts and take control of computer cameras and microphones of their targets.

According to the expose, criminals targeted the private email accounts of more than 100 victims, including critics of Qatar who threatened to expose wrongdoing by the Gulf state in the run-up to this month’s World Cup.

Azam Swati video: SC says PTI senator never stayed at its Quetta lodges

ISLAMABAD, NOV 6: The Supreme Court (SC) on Sunday issued a rebuttal and denied that PTI Senator Azam Swati stayed at its judicial lodges in Quetta in the wake of his claim that an objectionable video from his stay there was sent to his wife.

A day ago, Swati burst into tears before the media, saying that his wife had received a video featuring him and her and about which he could not share further details because the “daughters of my country are listening”. The senator had blamed the interior minister and two military officers for conspiring against him and said they should be held accountable if something happened to him.

He had said that his daughter had told him that the video was from when Swati and his wife had visited Quetta. Recalling that visit, the senator said Senate Chairperson Sadiq Sanjrani had made arrangements for them to stay at the Supreme Court’s judicial lodges in Quetta.

The development was widely condemned from across the political aisle.

Responding to Swati’s claims, a press release from the apex court clarified that the senator “never used/stayed in Supreme Court Judges Rest House at Quetta”, adding that according to the Balochistan Special Branch, the PTI leader had styed at the Balochistan Judicial Academy (Judicial Complex Quetta), which was not under the apex court’s control.

Soon after, PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry appeared to mock the apex court’s statement, saying it was an attempt by the registrar to placate the judges about the security of their lodges.

Meanwhile, the Senate chairman comprised a special committee of 14 senators to probe the matter. The notification from the Senate Secretariat said the committee would present its report within 30 days after its first meeting.

The committee included a single PTI senator, Mohsin Aziz.

Most shameful thing in country’s history: Imran

Talking on the issue during a press conference in Lahore, PTI Chairman Imran Khan termed the matter as the “most shameful thing in the country’s history”.

Imran said the incident had “shocked the nation” and called on Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Ata Bandial to ensure a full investigation on the matter.

“The usual suspects who are trying to cover this up and my assassination attempt are saying it’s a fake video,” he said, adding that Swati had told him he would be staging a sit-in protest outside the apex court and demanding justice for himself.

Imran said PTI senators would be with Swati as well and called on lawyer organisations for their support too.

Legal Forum for Kashmir hold In-house Discussion (IHD) on 75 years of Genocide in IIOJK

ISLAMABAD, NOV 6 /DNA/ – The Legal Forum for Kashmir (LFK) hosted an in-house discussion titled “75 Years of Horrendous Genocide in IIOJK” to commemorate the November 1947 Jammu Massacre, also referred to as the ‘Jammu Genocide,’ which was carried out by armed forces under the command of Dogra ruler Hari Singh in the winter capital of the disputed territory. According to an estimate by Kashmiri human rights organisations, the number of casualties’ranges between 200,000 and 300,000, and the magnitude of the slaughter of Muslims on a mass scale in Jammu between August and November 1947 has been labelled as a Holocaust of the East.

During the in-house discussion, the panellists elaborated on the horrifying planned genocide of Muslims that resulted in the conversion of Jammu’s Muslim majority into a minority. One of the panellists cited a report from The Times of London dated August 10, 1948, which detailed the Jammu Genocide, “237,000 Muslims were systematically exterminated … by the forces of the Dogra State headed by the Maharaja in person and aided by Hindus and Sikhs. This happened in October 1947, five days before the Pathan invasion and nine days before the Maharaja’s accession to India.”

Another panellist emphasised how Indian Hindu extremists were complicit with the Dogra ruler, and how a convoy of 70 trucks loaded with Jammu city Muslims left for Suchetgarh on November 6, with the Dogra ruler promising safe deportation to Pakistan. However, a few miles outside of town, the trucks were stopped, attacked and burned by armed jathas of Sikhs and Dogra state forces, leaving all the people burned beyond recognition.

After 75 years of Mass genocide in Jammu, the Indian government is executing a similar patter by settler colonial machination in IOJK. Since Aug 05 2019 when India robbed the Special status of disputed territory, they have normalized the settler colonial project by bringing a massive change in constitution and other laws which paved the way for non-Kashmiris to settle & seek job in Muslim majority region.

Online Speakers from IIOJK said India is doing similar thing in Kashmir to change the demographic status of Muslim majority into minority. Even the question of genocide is never far from discussion of these brutal settlements for example white settlers wiped out indigenous Tasmanians by executed genocide against the tribes.

The UN genocide watch issue alert Post August 05 2019 for occupied Kashmir, in which it identified the genocidal process, based on Dr Stantton’s 10 stages of Genocide. According to Dr Stanton the persecution of Kashmir’s Muslims has increased significantly on Prime Minister Modi’s watch. “So many of the early stages of genocide are already present. We don’t wait until it is a full out mass killing campaign to declare genocide. There are early warning signs of genocide now and that’s what we believe is the situation in Kashmir

The participants agreed unanimously that India’s atrocity crimes in IIOJK, such as the Jammu genocide, necessitate an independent and impartial international investigation to reveal the actual amount of lives lost, the number of rapes, the extent of torture, and the multitude of plundered properties. They went on to say that the status and number of survivors/refugees, as well as their current conditions, must be assessed in order to evaluate the true miseries and sufferings endured by Jammu Muslims and hold perpetrators accountable for horrendous crimes.

The attendees paid honourable homage to those who were martyred in the Jammu Genocide because of their religious identity and affiliation at the hands of Dogra ruler and Hindu extremists.

The panellists among other experts included Justice Ali Nawaz Chowhan, Former UN Judge, Honorary Chairman – LFK; Mr Nasir Qadri, Executive Director – LFK, Musaib Malik Program Coordinator , Nayeem Hurrah , Zain ul Abideen and Fayaz Mehar attended IHD.

Jammu Martyrs Day observed with due solemnity, reverence

ISLAMABAD, NOV 06 (DNA) — Jammu Martyrs Day at both sides of the line of control in Jammu & Kashmir and the rest of the world over on Sunday (November 6) with due solemnity and reverence to commemorate the supreme sacrifices given by the Muslim inhabitants of Jammu city this day in 1947 while migrating to their then newly-carved homeland Pakistan.

The day is observed every year by the Kashmiris to remember the great sacrifices of lives rendered by those over 2.50 lakh inmates of Jammu including men, women, children and elderly Muslims who were mercilessly slaughtered by the armed Hindu gangsters including the Indian occupying and the Dogra military troops near Jammu-Sialkot working boundary under a nefarious pre-planned conspiracy while they were proceeding for migrating to their beloved homeland Pakistan.

Like all previous years, the martyrs’ day commemorated the renewal of the pledge to continue the mission of Kashmiri martyrs to bring the Kashmir freedom struggle to its logical end. Jammu Kashmir people by observing the day will renew the resolve this year too to continue the ongoing struggle for freedom of occupied Jammu Kashmir from the Indian clutches till the achievement of the last victory. Despite the weekly holiday on November 06, there would be gazetted holiday across the AJK-liberated territory on this occasion.

Special ceremonies including seminars and symposiums were held in all small and major towns of all 10 districts of AJK including the capital city of Muzaffarabad, Mirpur, Kotli, Bhimbher, Bagh, Rawalakot, Palandri, Havaili, Hattiyan and Neelam valley as well as in various parts of Pakistan – dwelled with Jammu Kashmir refugees, to pay glorious tributes to the Jammu martyrs, gunned down by the armed Hindu fanatics including Indian occupying and Dogra military hooligans, this day (November 6) 75 years ago in 1947. Various Jammuwal organizations held a special prayer meeting to mark Jammu Martyrs Day in the morning in Mirpur on Sunday.

Participants offered Fateha for the up gradation of the departed souls of all the martyrs including the martyrs of Jammu & Kashmir who gave supreme sacrifices of their lives in the struggle for the liberation of the motherland from the forced and unlawful Indian occupation of a bulk part of the Jammu and Kashmir state.

Similar special prayers meetings to mark the Jammu martyrs day, an icon of great significance in the history of the struggle for freedom of Kashmir, are held under the auspices of various social, political, religious, and other public representative organizations to pay glorious tributes to the martyrs of Jammu and Kashmir.

The day began with special prayers, at Fajr, in all the prominent mosques for the early liberation of occupied Jammu Kashmir from the Indian yoke through the success of the Kashmir freedom movement, progress, prosperity, and stability of Pakistan and Azad Jammu & Kashmir. Quran Khawani was held at various places for Kashmiri martyrs under the auspices of various social, political, and public representative organizations.

At least 0.7 million Muslim inmates of Jammu city and adjoining areas were mercilessly killed during a week-long ruthless genocide maneuvered and executed by the despotic Dogra ruler’s force and gangsters besides the armed Hindu fanatics in the first and second week of November 1947.

These martyrs included 2.50 Muslim inmates of Jammu city and adjoining areas who were martyred by the Dogra forces and their armed gangsters 6th of November 1947 while they were moving for migrating to the adjoining Sialkot city of the newly-born separate homeland of the Muslims of the subcontinent – Pakistan.

This year too, the Jammu Martyrs day was observed at the time when Kashmir freedom reached its climax following the massive continued anti-India protests by the people of the bleeding Indian-occupied state of Jammu and Kashmir state for the last over three years complete information and communication blocked by the Indian occupational forces – since furious Kashmiris were constantly adamant to fully reject and resist the forced August 5, 2019, Indian sinister action of scrapping special status of the disputed Jammu Kashmir State abrogating article 370 and 35-A of her constitution. =DNA

T20 World Cup: Pakistan to face New Zealand in semi-final on Nov 9

ADELAIDE: Pakistan will face New Zealand in the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup 2022 after India beat Zimbabwe by 71 runs in their last T20 World Cup 2022 Super 12 clash at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on Sunday.

Pakistan will lock horns with last year’s runners-up at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Wednesday, November 9.

After the Netherlands surprisingly beat South Africa earlier on Sunday, the green shirts needed to beat Bangladesh. The Men in Green beat Bangladesh by five wickets at the Adelaide Oval, booking their spot in the last four of the event.

Meanwhile, India will lock horns with England in the second semi-final of the mega event at the Adelaide Oval on Thursday, November 10.

The Men in Blue posted a big 186 runs on the scoreboard before bowling out Zimbabwe for 115 in 17.2 overs.

In pursuit of the target, the African side’s batting line-up crumbled. However, Sikandar Raza and Ryan Burl fought back with decent knocks.

Raza, who has been sensational in this year’s event, scored 34 runs in 24 balls before getting out to Hardik Pandya, while Burl was bowled out by R Ashwin after he bagged 35 runs.

Wesley Madhvere and Regis Chakabava were sent back without scoring any runs.

Ashwin claimed three wickets for India, and Pandya and Mohammad Shami claimed two wickets each. Meanwhile, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Axar Patel, and Arshdeep Singh bagged one wicket each.

Earlier, number one T20I batter Suryakumar Yadav led India to a respectable score of 186-5 with yet another outstanding performance, this time an unbeaten 61 from 25 deliveries.

In the 12th over of the innings, when India was 87/2, he strolled in to bat and immediately started to score runs. Although the other middle-order batters struggled to get going, Yadav hit six fours and four sixes throughout his magnificent effort.

KL Rahul also played a fantastic inning for India, scoring 51 from 35 deliveries.

In the wake of South Africa’s defeat to the Netherlands earlier in the day, India has already advanced to the semifinals. However, they would still aim to win this game to take first place in Group 2 and secure a matchup with England in the semifinals.

What will judicial commission do when people I named are ones who will head probe: Imran Khan

Staff Report

Addressing a press conference from the hospital, PTI Chairman Imran Khan said that “slave nations cannot rise”. “My first point is what will the judicial commission do when the three people I named are the ones who will head the investigation,” said Khan. He added that he sought the interior minister, prime minister and a military official’s resignation as he wants “transparent investigations because there is an entire pattern”.

“First, video surfaces that I’m committing blasphemy, it should be probed in the investigations. The video is then highlighted by a journalist affiliated with a political party. After this, a press conference is held by Maryam Safdar, Marriyum Aurangzeb and Javed Latif and they say that I committed blasphemy,” said the PTI chief.

He added it was a pity that despite having a government in the Punjab they were not able to lodge an FIR of the Wazirabad shooting. The PTI Chairman said some quarters were even above the law that is why no FIR can be registered against them.

He added, when they approached the police for FIR, the police simply refused saying it cannot register FIR against one person. The Police were ready to register FIR against the Prime Minister and the Interior Minister.

Pakistan defeat Bangladesh by five wickets to secure T20 World Cup semi-final spot

MELBOURNE: Pakistan beat Bangladesh by five wickets in their final Super 12 match to join Group 2 rivals India in the semi-finals of the Twenty20 World Cup in Adelaide on Sunday.

The Netherlands lit up the final day of Group 2 action when they dashed South Africa’s semi-final hopes by pulling off a huge upset against Temba Bavuma’s team.

Their 13-run victory sent India through to the semi-finals and injected fresh life into Pakistan’s bid for a place in the last four.

India, who conclude their group campaign against Zimbabwe later on Sunday in Melbourne, and Pakistan are level on six points, while South Africa finished on five.

New Zealand and England have qualified for the semi-finals from Group 1.

Bangladesh began well after captain Shakib Al Hasan elected to bat and were 70-1 at the halfway stage.

Shadab Khan dismissed Soumya Sarkar and Shakib in successive deliveries though the lbw decision against the Bangladesh skipper, who had charged down the track, looked doubtful with replays showing an edge.

Najmul Hossain made 54 but Bangladesh could not make the most of the decent start and settled for a below-par 127-8.

Pakistan captain Babar Azam (25) and deputy Mohammad Rizwan (32) began cautiously but could not convert the starts and departed in successive overs.

Mohammad Haris produced a breezy 31 to calm nerves in the Pakistan camp as the 2009 champions went on to win with 11 balls to spare.

Earlier, South Africa, chasing 159 for a place in the semi-finals, managed 145-8 to crash out.

The Netherlands’ top four batters made useful contribution to power the Dutch side to 158-4 after being put into bat at the Adelaide Oval.

Stephan Myburgh (37) and Max O’Dowd (29) gave them a decent start adding 58 runs for the opening stand.

Tom Cooper made 35 and Colin Ackermann chipped in with an unbeaten 41 to take them past the 150-mark.

South Africa struggled to get going in their reply losing both their openers – Quinton de Kock and Bavuma — inside the powerplay.

Brandon Glover, who claimed three wickets for nine runs, then scythed South Africa’s middle order to set up a memorable victory for the Dutch side.
