‘Muslim ummah must unite against Israel’s atrocities’, Hamas chief tells Fazl

Fazl meets Hamas leadership in Qatar, provide aid to Gaza

DOHA: With Israel continuing its relentless bombing of the Gaza Strip, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman met Palestinian resistance group Hamas’s leader Ismail Haniyeh and former chief Khaled Mashal in Qatar on Sunday.

The JUI-F chief is in Qatar where he is expected to reach out to the Arab world leadership to find a way to provide aid to Gaza which has been facing a dire humanitarian crisis due to the ongoing Israeli bombing of the strip following the October 7 attack by Hamas, sources told Geo News.

“The two sides held detailed discussions over the Palestine issue”, JUI-F spokesperson Aslam Ghauri said while shedding light on the meeting between the veteran politician and Hamas leadership.

“[The JUI-F chief] conveyed condolences and expressed solidarity with the people of Palestine in wake of Israeli atrocities in Gaza,” the statement on Fazl’s X account read.

During the meeting, Haniyeh called for Muslims to unite in the face of Israeli aggression — which has killed nearly 10,000 Palestinians since October 7.

“It is the Muslim ummah’s responsibility to unite against Israeli atrocities,” Haniyeh said.

Meanwhile, Mashal highlighted that the prevalent atrocities in Kashmir and Palestine are a slap in the face of so-called human rights advocates.

The JUI-F chief, while echoing Hamas leadership’s views, said that the developed nations have the blood of innocent children and women on their hands.

Mashal appreciated Fazl’s efforts for the Palestine cause saying that the JUI-F chief is playing the role of Palestine’s ambassador in Pakistan.

The sources said Fazl was the first religio-political leader from any Muslim country who has embarked upon the war zone.

The party said that “the movement of Maulana Fazl has been kept secret since he wanted to reach the devastated people quietly and offer them assistance”. He is carrying food and medicines with him, the sources had told The News.

The publication said that after addressing a mammoth rally “Toofan Al-Aqsa March” in Karachi and “Sindh Aman Conference”, Fazl left for “some destination” from where he would reach the oppressed people of Gaza.

Israel’s offensive continues
Israel’s war on Palestinians and an ongoing bombardment of the Gaza Strip continues to escalate the humanitarian crisis.

The Benjamin Netanyahu-led occupation forces have intensified their ground operation and bombardment in Gaza for almost the last four weeks killing thousands of Palestinians including children.

For its relentless attacks, Israel accuses Hamas of hiding among civilians and has been using this explanation as an excuse when it faces criticism for targeting besieged civilians.

With Turkey being the latest to recall its envoy from Israel, many countries have also cut their diplomatic ties with Tel Aviv, whose forces have besieged Gaza for 17 years.

Global powers, including the United States and the UN, have called on Israel to ensure that civilian casualties are avoided in its continuing pursuit to eliminate Hamas, but to no avail.

The UN is also calling for an immediate ceasefire to at least allow aid to flow smoothly to the war-torn strip and permit the exchange of hostages.

Israeli PM Netanyahu, however, has ruled out halting his forces’ assault on Gaza and stressed that they would continue to pound the Hamas-run enclave.

OIC urged to take bold decisions on the Palestine situation

OIC urged to take bold decisions on the Palestine situation

Lahore, NOV 5: /DNA/ – The Central Executive and Consultative Body of Pakistan Ulema Council has issued a declaration on the current situation of the country, Palestine and the Islamic world. More than two hundred members of Pakistan Ulema Council’s Executive and Consultative Body participated in the meeting. The meeting was presided over by Central Chairman Pakistan Ulema Council Hafiz Muhammad Tahir Mahmood Ashrafi. The meeting stated that in the declaration that the forces hostile to Pakistan, including India and its allies are involved in the incidents of terrorism inside Pakistan.

The international community must take immediate steps against India’s continued terrorism. The response of the Pakistani nation, army and security agencies to the terrorist incidents during the last two days and before is commendable. Ulemas-Mashaykh and the religious scholars from all over the country stand united by Pakistan’s Army and security agencies to contain the menace of extremism and terrorism. The way the soldiers of the Pakistan Army and security agencies foiled the terrorist attack on the Mianwali PAF Airbase is a matter of pride. The declaration issued by Pakistan Ulema Council also sid that Pakistan Ulema Council also supports and endorse Paigham-e-Pakistan narrative and the decree in this regard.

In this aegis of Pakistan Ulema Council, Paigham-e-Pakistan Conventions will be held across the country. The declaration also noted that attacks on Pakistan’s armed forces, security institutions, government and non-government installations and people are not permissible under any circumstances. Armed struggle by any individual, party or group is not legally permissible in Pakistan, and the government of Pakistan has the right to take legal action against those who do this. The declaration expressing concern over the situation in Palestine stated that for the last one month, the Zionist state of Israel has done complete siege of Gaza, the supply of water, food and fuel to 2.3 million people of Gaza has been suspended while the communication system has also been cut off. As a result of the ongoing bombing by Israel, more than 10,000 Palestinians have been martyred, including more than 3,000 children, while more than 20,000 people have been injured and hundred are burrier under the debris of demolished buildings.

The United States and its Western allies have not only supported Israel’s inhuman attacks, but are also complicit in Israel’s war crimes. The United Nations Human Rights Organization has definitely condemned the Israeli aggression, but this problem is not going to be solved by condemnations. The United Nations (UNO), OIC and Human Rights Organizations have to take immediate steps to ensure ceasefire in Gaza, otherwise, the sparks of this war can engulf the entire world.

The declaration said that the situation in Palestine is a test for the entire Ummah, as infants and children are being martyred in Gaza by barbaric bombardment, on which every Muslim living on earth is heartbroken and looking towards their rulers. Amidst all this situation, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia should play a leadership role, as currently the OIC is headed by Saudi Arabia. From the forum of OIC of the Muslim Ummah, lively and a bold decisions should be made on the situation in Palestine. Turkey, Bahrain and Jordan have cut off diplomatic relations with Israel and the rest of the Islamic countries that have diplomatic relations with Israel should also show courage in this regard.

A boycott of all Jewish products should be announced from the platform of the OIC. The Pakistan Ulema Council thanks Russia and China for their support to the Palestinian people. In the declaration, it was said that the state of Pakistan stands firmly on its principled stand on the Palestinian issue, and the stance expressed by Army Chief General Hafiz Syed Asim Munir in the meeting with the Palestinian ambassador is the voice of the heart of the entire nation. The State of Pakistan, the Pakistan Army and the people stand with their oppressed Palestinian brothers in this hour of difficulty and will provide them with all possible help. In the declaration, it was said that Afghans are our brothers, Pakistan has served Afghans for more than forty years and will continue to do so in the future, but we can’t support the illegal residents in the country.

It is the right of the State of Pakistan and the people of Pakistan to evict illegal residents from its territory. Legal foreigners are still living in Pakistan, it is the responsibility of the state to take action against them and expel them, and the entire nation stands by the state in this regard, said declaration of Pakistan Ulema Council. This operation is not against the residents of any particular country, but against all illegal people residing in Pakistan without legal documents. Unfortunately, the forces hostile to Pakistan, India and its allies elements are trying to spread propaganda on this legal right of Pakistan.

We also appeal to Afghan leaders to negotiate with Pakistan and address all these issues. Irresponsible statements on part of some Afghan leaders are very sorrowful an the leadership of the Afghan Interim Government should take notice of this. Baseless accusations and threatening behavior against Pakistan should end, said declaration. In the meeting, Chairman Pakistan Ulema Council Hafiz Muhammad Tahir Mahmood Ashrafi, Allama Abdul Haq Mujahid, Maulana Muhammad Rafiq Jami, Maulana Nauman Hasher, Maulana Asad Zakaria Qasmi, Maulana Muhammad Shafi Qasmi, Maulana Asadullah Farooq, Allama Zubair Abid, Maulana Muhammad Ashfaq Patafi, Maulana Abu Bakr Hameed Sabri, Maulana Tahir Aqeel Awan, Maulana Aziz Akbar Qasmi, Maulana Haq Nawaz Khalid, Maulana Ubaidullah Gormani, Allama Tahirul Hasan Maulana Hanif Usmani, Maulana Muhammad Asghar Khosa, Maulana Anwarul Haq Mujahid, Maulana Abdul Malik Asif, Maulana Aslam Siddiqui, Maulana Abdul Hakeem Athar, Qari Muhammad Aslam Qadri, Maulana Abdullah Haqqani, Maulana Abdul Waheed Farooqui, Maulana Abu Bakar Hamza, Maulana Habib Rehman Abid, Maulana Aminul Haq Ashrafi, Maulana Izharul Haq Khalid, Sahibzada Hamza Tahirul Hasan, Maulana Saadullah Ludhianwi, Maulana Anisur Rehman Baloch, Maulana Abdul Rasheed, Mufti Muhammad Umar Farooq, Maulana Abdul Ghaffar Shah Hijazi, Maulana Muhammad Ahmad Makki, Maulana Azizur Rahman Muawiya, Mufti Imran Muawiya, Maulana Saadullah Shafiq, Maulana Yasir Alvi, Qari Abdul Rauf, Maulana Mustaal Mahar, Maulana Zubair Khatana, Maulana Aqeel Zubairi, Qari Azizur Rahman, Maulana Shabbir Khatana, Maulana Zubair Khatana, Qari Abdul Majid Lahori, Maulana Khanpuri, Maulana Qasim Farooq Sangi, Maulana Ashraf Malik, Maulana Ijaz Malik, Qari Abdul Wahab Muawiya, Maulana Muhammad Bilal Saqib, Qari Ibrahim, Qari Riaz, Maulana Amir Muawiya, Maher Abdul Khaliq Murali, Maulana Muneebur Rahman Haidari, Qari Mohabbate Ali Qasmi, Qari Zul Qarnain, Maulana Tayyab Qureshi, Qari Mahmood Al Hasan, Qari Abdul Majid Malik, Maulana Waqas Iqbal and others participated.

US Multilateral Approach in the Israel-Palestine Conflict

US Multilateral Approach in the Israel-Palestine Conflict

Dr. Muhammad Akram Zaheer

Since the horrific October 7 attacks by Hamas and Israel’s subsequent punitive bombing campaign against Gaza, the US government has rapidly expanded its reach into the Strip of Gaza.President Joe Biden, Secretary of State Anthony Blanken and other senior US officials have made one or more trips to Israel and neighboring countries in recent weeks. The US Army has strengthened its deterrence position.

American diplomats began working to coordinate the international response to the worsening humanitarian crisis. But as Israel prepares to launch a ground attack on Gaza and fears grow that the conflict will spill over into neighboring countries, the United States is making more efforts to respond to the war between Israel and Hamas and its broader regional repercussions. In the short term, America should focus to prevent the conflict from escalating, end the fighting as quickly as possible while minimizing civilian casualties, including locating and freeing hostages and ensure that humanitarian aid reaches Gaza freely so that Palestinian citizens have access to basic food, medicine and shelter.

The United States must be clear with the Israeli leadership that Israel’s right to self-defense is not a blank check to launch any military operation with reckless disregard for civilian consequences and that eliminating Hamas is acceptable. The price is unlikely to be an acceptable option. However, it should also be clear that Washington has failed to fulfill its responsibilities for decades.During successive administrations, the United States, which seeks to monopolize mediation efforts, has described its willingness to engage in serious peace efforts as realistic, criticized the deteriorating situation in the Palestinian territories and ignored both the rise of the Israeli desire.Israel is determined to obstruct a peaceful transition to an independent Palestinian state. The Biden administration must seize this moment to correct the situation.

Although conventional wisdom has been that US presidents do not want to engage in Middle East peace talks in a presidential election year, shirking this responsibility is no longer sustainable.President Biden should announce that he will invite Israelis and Palestinians to attend, along with his key counterparts from the United Nations, European Union, United Kingdom, and Arab partners Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates.Morocco.To Washington to start a new process to resolve the outstanding issues of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The process will not be easy or quick, but delay would make clear to Israelis and Palestinians alike that a peaceful path that allows both sides to pursue their legitimate aspirations is no longer possible or acceptable.

The United States needs to stay on the path to maintain a clear focus to pursue a course of action that serves what is best. Washington should ensure that Israeli and Palestinians remain confident that they have strong support from the United States and other like-minded democracies to take appropriate actions to defend their people and sovereignty against threats to them. The United States publicly and privately stress on Israel that it expects Israel to adhere to the rules of war, which means that military means must be avoid to use with the greatest protection of innocents lives. The United States should ensure that the robust humanitarian assistance needed reaches people in need in Gaza and throughout the region, including through aid deliveries and evacuations.

Make every effort to contain the conflict and prevent it from turning into a regional conflict. In parallel, start planning next steps the next day with other like-minded people, including countries in the region as well as available Israelis and Palestinians. Planning for the next must take into account how Palestine will be governed initially and over time in post-war Gaza. How can the capacity and effectiveness of the Palestinian Authority in both the West Bank and Gaza Strip be improved and strengthened? And whether there are transitional measures under which the United Nations and or a group of regional states temporarily share governmental responsibilities on the basis of the commitment of the Israeli and Palestinian leadership to resume the path towards a two-state solution. Part of rebuilding this path will require developing and implementing measures that can improve the lives of Palestinians in a tangible and measurable way. Ultimately, the goal should be to create a safer environment.

An Analysis of the UK’s Voting Systems

UK’s Voting Systems

Kainat Rao | Student of BS Political Science | University of Okara

A voting system, often known as an electoral system, is a set of regulations that specify how elections and referendums are conducted and how their outcomes are determined. People adapt electoral processes to select their governments, but commercial, nonprofit and informal groups may also hold non-political elections. These rules govern all aspects of the voting process, including when elections are held, who is eligible to vote, who can run for office, how ballots are marked and cast, how they are counted, how the votes are translated into an election result, the amount that can be spent on campaigns and other factors that may influence the outcome. Political electoral systems are established by constitutions and electoral laws, typically overseen by election commissioners and can employ various election formats for different purposes.

While some electoral systems elect multiple winners, such as members of parliament or boards of directors, others select a single winner for a specific office, such as governor, president, or prime minister. Areas may be divided into constituencies with one or more representatives for the purpose of choosing a legislature. A political party or coalition may present a list of candidates for voters to choose from, or they may vote directly for individual candidates. Among the various types of electoral systems, the most popular ones include ranked voting (also known as STV or instant-runoff voting), Party-list proportional representation, plurality block voting, first-past-the-post voting and two-round (runoff) voting. A few additional electoral systems, such as mixed systems, aim to combine the advantages of proportional and non-proportional systems.

Voting Systems in the UK Voting systems, or electoral systems, are the means by which we elect representatives. A voting system establishes the rules for electing parties and candidates.

The House of Commons, Scottish Parliament, National Assembly for Wales, Northern Ireland Assembly and UK local authorities utilize different voting systems.

First-past-the-post voting is used in the House of Commons and local councils in England and Wales. The United Kingdom is divided into constituencies, which are further subdivided into wards. Voters indicate their preferred candidate on a ballot paper by marking an ‘X’ next to their choice in a general or municipal election. The votes are counted, and the candidate with the most votes represents the constituency or ward.Alternative Vote (AV) The Alternative Vote system is used to choose the Lord Speaker, the heads of the majority of House of Commons committees and in by-elections for hereditary peers.Voters rank candidates by marking 1, 2, and 3 and so on to indicate their preferences. Voters can choose to rank as many or as few candidates as they like, or they can support only one candidate. Votes based on first preferences are counted first. A candidate is declared elected if they secure over 50% of the first preference votes. If no candidate receives 50% of the vote, the candidate with the fewest first-choice votes is eliminated. The remaining candidates receive second preference votes, and a candidate is declared elected if their total votes exceed the total number of remaining contestants.Supplementary Vote (SV) The Supplementary Vote system is used in elections for Police and Crime Commissioners as well as mayors in England and Wales.

The SV system is similar to the AV system, with voters choosing both a first and second preference. Voters indicate their top choice by checking a box in one column and can add another cross in a different column for their second preference. A candidate is declared elected if they secure over 50% of the first preference votes. If no candidate receives 50% of the vote, the two candidates with the most votes remain in the race, and other contenders are eliminated. The eliminated candidates’ second preferences are counted and the votes are redistributed to the final two candidates.

Single Transferable Vote (STV) STV is used in elections for the House of Commons deputy speaker, Scottish and Northern Ireland municipal elections and Northern Ireland Assembly elections. From 1979 to 2019, STV was also used in Northern Ireland to elect European Parliament members.STV is used in constituencies where multiple representatives are elected. Voters rank candidates by marking 1, 2, 3, and so on to indicate their preferences. Voters can choose to rank as many or as few candidates as they like, or they can support only one candidate. Each candidate has a quota to meet, which is determined based on the total number of seats and votes cast. The first preference votes for each candidate are tallied. The Additional Member System is used by the National Assembly for Wales, the London Assembly and the Scottish Parliament.Voters are provided with two separate ballots. One vote is cast for a party list and another for a constituency member. List members in Wales and Scotland are selected based on regional representation, while there is a single London-wide list available. First-past-the-post voting is used to elect each constituency’s MPs, with constituency votes counted first. Following that, the votes from the party lists in each area are tallied to elect additional members. The number of list members elected is determined by the proportion of votes cast and takes into account the number of constituency members already elected in the area. The Closed Party List method was used in England, Scotland and Wales to choose representatives for the European Parliament.Under this approach, voters select a party by marking the party’s name on the ballot paper. Parties are allocated seats based on the number of votes they receive in each constituency. In this system, voters choose parties, not individual candidates and the order of candidates on the list is determined by the parties.

This diverse voting system demonstrates that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to conducting elections. Each system serves distinct purposes and reflects the values and priorities of the electoral process it governs. As such, the choice of a voting system is not merely a technical decision but a reflection of a society’s political culture and democratic aspirations. The UK’s array of electoral systems illustrates the flexibility and adaptability of democracy, as it allows for different methods to be employed in various contexts, catering to the specific needs and preferences of each electoral arena.Ultimately, the effectiveness and fairness of a voting system depend on how well it serves its intended purpose, upholds democratic principles and ensures that the voices of citizens are accurately represented in their government. The ongoing debate over electoral systems underscores the significance of continually evaluating and refining these systems to strengthen the democratic process and maintain the trust of the electorate.

At the end,I think it is very important to acknowledge the contributions of teachers and mentors because they help students and researchers to develop their skills and knowledge. I thankful to Dr. Muhammad AkramZaheer who provided me guidance to write on this topic, it is a testament of his commitment to academic and scholarly pursuits.

Tribute to our air warriors

Tribute to our air warriors

By: Hayah Bahroni

In the skies where bravery soars,
A tale of valor forever roars.
Today, we honor the sons of the PAF,
Defenders of our land, our epitome of chaff.

Amidst darkness, a threat took flight,
But our heroes emerged, shining bright.
With hearts ablaze and courage untamed,
They thwarted terror, our pride unclaimed.

Oh, valiant soldiers, so steadfast and true,
With your determination, our spirits renew.
In the face of danger, you stood tall,
Unyielding, answering the nation’s call.

Nine of our enemies met their fate,
Their wicked plans, you disintegrate.
With each life saved, a victory profound,
Our gratitude to you, forever resound.

Bravery and professionalism – your Hallmark,
The PAF’s legacy – an Eternal Spark.
Safeguarding our skies, our sacred abode,
Defending the aerial frontiers, with bravery code.

Oh, valiant soldiers, we salute your grace,
In our hearts, your triumph finds its place.
United, we stand, under Pakistan’s protection,
With the PAF, our pride, our nation’s reflection.

So let us bow our heads and pray,
For the PAF soldiers who led the way.
Pakistan Air Force, our shield and sword,
We salute you, our heroes always adored.

Lok Mela showcases the artistry of over 400 Pakistani artisans

Lok Mela showcases the artistry of over 400 Pakistani artisans

ISLAMABAD, NOV 4: /DNA/ – Apart from many entertainment programs for the visitors, the exhibition of the work of the artisans is a special attraction for the visitors at the ongoing “Lok Mela” organized by Lok Virsa.

More than 400 artisans are seen showcasing their work of making aestheticallymade handicrafts, using their creativity in folk arts and crafts and mesmerizing the visitors with their unique craftsmanship.

Handicrafts on display include embroidery (including Multani, Bahawalpuri, Hazara, Swati, Balochi and Sindhi embroidery), block printing, wood lacquer work, khusa making, pottery, chunri work, doll making, khaddar weaving, truck art, wood carving, namda and gaba, metal work, shawl weaving, zari work, bead work, ajrak, stone carving etc.

Lok Virsa being an important institution for promoting Pakistani folk culture, is well aware of the need for gender equality, that is why the stalls of women artisans are seen in every pavilion. Bothmen and women have an equal opportunity to express their talents in the mela.

Many women artisans can be seen displaying their skills in the melaas well. The most prominent among them is Kaneez Fatima. She is an expert craftsman of Balochi embroidery and is carrying forward this centuries-old tradition of her ancestors and has dedicated 35 to 40 years of her life to this profession and making this art useful for future generations too.

Men artisans are also no less than women in demonstrating their art, among them Muhammad Riaz, an expert craftsman of lacquer work hails from Silanwali, Punjab. His father was also an expert craftsman. He continued to exhibit his art in many fairs and exhibitions across the country and was awarded several times with cash prizes and certificates. He was recently conferred upon President’s medal for Pride of Performance.

Fayyaz is an expert block printing artisan using the natural dyes from KahrorPakka. The centers of the ancient art of wood block making are in the lower part of the Indus Valley which encompasses southern Punjab and the whole of Sindh. It is a more than 9,000-year-old craft dating back to the Mehrgarh civilization in Balochistan, which is the earliest evidence of pottery production.

The Indus Valley Civilization of MohenjoDaro in Sindh and the Harappan Civilization of Punjab (5,000 BC) indicate traces of cotton and woolen cloth production. The form, design and color of Pakistani handicrafts still have a dominant historical influence at the core. Handicrafts represent a valuable material heritage, a solid part of our historical and contemporary culture. Unlike in the West, most traditional crafts in Pakistan are neither a profession nor a hobby, but an integral part of a diverse cultural pattern.

The impact of the industrial age is destroying the heritage of this craft in rural areas as well, but there is a recent trend towards the use of handicrafts as art in urban homes. Historical motifs and designs are being revived by an increasing number of artisans and designers for the tourist and export trade.

Keepingthe tradition alive, a match of traditional wrestling of Punjab Kabaddiwas held at Mela grounds on 4th November. Two teams from Faisalabad arrived and gave thrilling performance of Kabaddi amid loud beating of drums, which was appreciated by a large number of crowd.

At the evening, a Qawwaliconcert was organized at the Open Air Theater featuring the famous QawwalBakshi Brothers. He performed Qawwali in their unique style and gave an electrifying and riveting performance and received great applause from the fans.

Mushaal appeals int’l community to save Yasin Malik’s life

Urges world to act promptly to stop bloodbath of Kashmiris

Warns unresolved Kashmir dispute to remain a threat to regional peace

OSLO: Special Assistant to Prime Minister (SAPM) on Human Rights and Women Empowerment Mushaal Hussain Mallick appealed to the world to protect the life of her incarcerated husband Yasin Malik, who was facing real threats in notorious Tihar jail because he was not ready to budge an inch from his principled stance of the Kashmiris right to self-determination.

Speaking at a seminar on HR situation in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) co-hosted by Parliament’s Foreign Affairs and Defence Standing Committee Member Dag-Inge Ulestein and President Foundation Dialogue for Peace Aamir Javed Sheikh, Mushaal said: “We are the worst victims of human rights violation, as we are divided family peacefully struggling for the right to self-determination of IIOJK.

“We just spent one birth day together back 2014 and during 14-year-long marriage life, we just spent 60 days together. I spoke to my husband last time back in February 2019, thereby my life is just like a movie,” she added.

Speaking as a chief guest at the event, the SAPM on Human Rights and Women Empowerment said that Yasin Malik was one of the most powerful voice of Kashmir freedom movement at present; hence the notorious Narendra Modi-led government kept in unlawful detained by falsely implicating him in fabricated and politically motivated case to break his resolve.

She revealed that Yasin Malik was not only deprived him of his legal and fundamental rights of free trials but even he was denied basic lifesaving drugs despite his fast deteriorating health issues.

Mushaal feared of judicial murder of Yasin Malik ahead of general elections in India, as Modi could use his murder for political mileage because his popularity graph witnessed alarming decline.

Therefore, she urged the world powers, UN bodies and human rights organizations to save Yasin’s life and ensure his early and safe release from unlawful custody of Indian brutal forces.

The SPAM on Human Rights and Women Empowerment said that the fascist Indian government turned the scenic valley into a killing field and unleashed a wave of state terrorism to muzzle the dissenting voices.

She demanded the international community and UNSC to play their due role to immediately stop the massacre and genocidal acts in the valley, besides ensuring lasting solution to the decades-old problems as per the aspirations of the people of the occupied valley and the UN resolutions.

Pak vs NZ: Pakistan beat New Zealand as rain-hit match called off

Pakistan

Pakistan were declared winners in the crucial game against New Zealand in the World Cup 2023 on Saturday, as the match was called off due to persistent rain in Bengaluru.

Swashbuckling opener Fakhar Zaman cracked a blistering century to save the Men in Green from the World Cup elimination in a rain-affected and dramatic 21-run victory over Kiwis at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.

The 33-year-old left-hander smashed 11 sixes and eight boundaries in his unbeaten 81-ball 126 as rain forced a premature end to the match with Pakistan 200-1 after 25.3 overs, chasing a revised DLS target of 342 in 41 overs.

Rachin Ravindra hit his third century of the tournament while Kane Williamson scored 95 to help New Zealand pile up 401-6 in their 50 overs.

Set a mammoth 402-run target initially, Zaman lifted Pakistan to 160-1 after 21.3 overs before a 90-minute stoppage due to rain led to a revised target for Pakistan.

After the resumption, Zaman kept up the tempo, hitting three sixes off spinner Ish Sodhi’s 25th over as Pakistan went past the 200-mark.

Pakistan had needed to overhaul the original target of 402 in 35.3 overs if they were to get beyond New Zealand´s better net run-rate which could prove crucial in the battle for semi-final spots.

However, Abdullah Shafique fell for four in the second over.

Zaman and skipper Babar Azam (66) added 194 for the unbroken second wicket stand.

Zaman took the attack to the New Zealand bowlers, smashing four sixes and as many boundaries in his 39-ball fifty.

He completed his 11th ODI hundred, and first in a World Cup, with a six and a single off Mitchell Santner.

His century came off 63 balls with nine sixes and six boundaries.

Pakistan now have eight points from as many games with their last match against England in Kolkata on November 11.

They not only need to win that but also hope New Zealand lose to Sri Lanka on November 9 in Bengaluru at this same venue or the match is hit by rain.

New Zealand pile up 401

Earlier, it was Ravindra and Williamson who set the platform for New Zealand´s total after they were put in to bat.

Ravindra continued his superb form with a 94-ball 108 with 15 boundaries and a six and was matched stroke for stroke by Williamson whose 79-ball knock was spiced with two sixes and ten boundaries.

This was Ravindra´s third century of the tournament — in addition to two half centuries — and he was in total control until he holed out at deep mid-wicket off Mohammad Wasim in the 36th over.

On a dry looking Chinnaswamy pitch, Pakistan entered the match with four fast bowlers and two part-time spinners and with rain forecast in the afternoon sent New Zealand in to bat.

In contrast, New Zealand brought in leg-spinner Sodhi in addition to three other slow bowlers including an in-form Santner.

Ravindra and Devon Conway scored 66 in the first power-play before Conway fell to a short pitched ball from Hasan Ali after scoring a 35-ball 39 with six boundaries.

Williamson, who recovered from a knee surgery just before the World Cup, had played only one game against Bangladesh before fracturing his thumb.

But the regular New Zealand skipper showed no signs of rustiness and added 180 for the second wicket with Ravindra.

Williamson fell with the score at 248, holing out off Iftikhar Ahmed at long-off while an over later Ravindra also miscued a lofted shot and was caught at the boundary off Mohammad Wasim.

Daryl Mitchell (29) and Mark Chapman (39) added a quickfire 57 for the fourth wicket as none of the Pakistani bowlers could stem the flow of runs.

Glenn Phillips hit a 25-ball 41 with four boundaries and two sixes while Santner was not left behind, smashing two sixes in his 17-ball 26 not out.

Wasim was the best Pakistan bowler with 3-60 but Shaheen Shah Afridi conceded 90 and Haris Rauf 85 respectively in their ten overs — the worst-ever figures by Pakistan bowlers in all World Cups.

The worst previous World Cup performance by a Pakistani bowler was Hasan´s 1-84 against India at Old Trafford in 2019.
