Gaza: Israeli forces seize Gaza parliament amid heavy bombardment near hospitals US President Joe Biden says hospitals in Gaza Strip must be protected, hopes for ‘less intrusive’ action by Israel.

The Israeli army said Tuesday it had captured parliament and other government insitutions run by Hamas in Gaza City, as its forces deepened their offensive in the Palestinian territory.

Military units “took over the Hamas parliament, the government building, the Hamas police headquarters and an engineering faculty that served as an institute for the production and development of weapons,” the army said in a statement.

IHC issues stay order against Imran Khan’s jail trial in cipher case

IHC issues stay order against Imran Khan's jail trial in cipher case

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) Tuesday issued a stay order against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan’s jail trial in the cipher case.

A two-member bench, comprising Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb and Justice Saman Rafat Imtiaz, announced the decision during the hearing of the PTI chief’s intra-court appeal against trial in Adiala jail.

The development comes after the caretaker federal cabinet on Monday approved the jail trial of the former prime minister and PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi in the case.

The cabinet gave its assent to the summary by the Ministry of Law regarding the former prime minister and foreign minister’s trial in the Adiala jail due to security concerns.

During the hearing today, Attorney General Mansoor Awan presented his arguments before the court.

“The federal cabinet approved the jail trial of Imran Khan,” said the attorney general. He added that the notification will also be presented before the court.

At this, Justice Aurangzeb said that they would check the notification. “All trials will be held in open court, so this trial will be an extraordinary one,” he remarked.

“If this will be a jail trial then it would be an extraordinary one,” said the judge.

The attorney general said that this was not an extraordinary trial but just a jail trial, adding that he would seek records from all relevant agencies and place them before the court.

In hindsight, all three notifications are not in accordance with the relevant rules of the high court, the judge maintained.

“When, under what circumstances and on what basis was it decided that there would be a jail trial?” he asked Awan.

Khan’s counsel Raja told the court that five witnesses are still present in the jail to record their statements.

The judge remarked that many questions need to be answered, adding that the federal cabinet approved the jail trial two days ago.

“Why did the federal cabinet approve the jail trial?” he asked, while also questioning about the status of the court proceedings before approval.

The judge, during the hearing, remarked that there was a jail trial of Indira Gandhi’s murder case, but journalists from BBC and all other outlets were allowed to cover it.

The IHC then adjourned the hearing on the intra-court appeal against jail trial till November 16.

The deposed prime minister — who was ousted from office following a no-confidence motion in April last year — had moved IHC against the jail trial which was rejected by the court’s single bench on October 16.

IHC Chief Justice Aamer Farooq’s single-member bench announced no apparent malice behind conducting Khan’s jail trial in the cipher case. The court also directed him to approach the trial court if reservations persist.

Later, Khan filed an intra-court appeal against the single bench’s decision.

In August of this year, Khan and Qureshi were booked under the Official Secrets Act 1923 in the cipher case after the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) invoked Section 5 of the said law.

The diplomatic cable reportedly went missing from Imran’s possession. According to the former ruling party, the cable contained a threat from the United States to topple the PTI’s government.

Khan and Qureshi have been indicted by the special court and are currently incarcerated in Adiala jail in the cipher case.

What is ciphergate?
The controversy first emerged on March 27, 2022, when Imran Khan — less than a month before his ouster in April 2022 — while addressing a public rally waved a letter before the crowd, claiming that it was a cipher from a foreign nation that had conspired with his political rivals to have PTI government overthrown.

He did not reveal the contents of the letter nor did he mention the name of the nation it came from. But a few days later, he accused the United States of conspiring against him and alleged that Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia Affairs Donald Lu had sought his removal.

The cipher was about former Pakistan ambassador to the US Majeed’s meeting with Lu.

The former prime minister, claiming that he was reading contents from the cipher, said that “all will be forgiven for Pakistan if Imran Khan is removed from power”.

Then on March 31, the National Security Committee (NSC) took up the matter and decided to issue a “strong demarche” to the US for its “blatant interference in the internal affairs of Pakistan”.

Later, after his removal, then-prime minister Shehbaz Sharif convened a meeting of the NSC, which came to the conclusion that it had found no evidence of a foreign conspiracy in the cable.

In the two audio leaks that took the internet by storm and shocked the public after these events, the former prime minister, then-federal minister Asad Umar, and then-principle secretary Azam Khan could allegedly be heard discussing the US cipher and how to use it to their advantage.

On September 30, the federal cabinet took notice of the matter and constituted a committee to probe the contents of the audio leaks.

In October, the cabinet gave the green signal to initiate action against the former prime minister and handed over the case to the FIA.

Once FIA was given the task to probe the matter, it summoned Imran, Asad Umar, and other leaders of the party, but the PTI chief challenged the summons and secured a stay order from the court.

The Lahore High Court (LHC), in July this year, recalled the stay order against the call-up notice to Imran by the FIA.

Unipolar Order in Disorder

Unipolar Order in Disorder

Dr M Ali Hamza

In the midst of the global focus on the conflict between Gaza and Israel, a significant geopolitical development is unfolding, largely overlooked by mainstream media. Over the past few days, the Russian President has drawn a monumental red line, marking a transformative shift in the unipolar order that the United States has maintained since World War II. Infact, the Putin’s moves over the past few days are bigger than anything he has done since the start of the war in Ukraine.

Before getting in to details of it, first look into the US active preparation for war in middle east, and at the same time giving a noteworthy disregardto Ukrainian president Zalinski who is increasingly looking unhinged as in his one of the interviews Zalinski said “I am repeating in these 2 years if it will not be enough for them, it will not be enough because Syria was not enough, they began in Ukraine and after Ukraine in Middle east, they will continue their plan”. What Zalinski wants to say? Sorry, but you need cocaine to interpret what Zalinski actually wants to say or Mr. Zalinski seems having insufficient knowledge of recent history where western powers expressed their aggressive tendency of being expansionists.

The US pentagon just admitted that the funding of Ukraine is almost gone; in other words,US is taking funding away from Ukraine and instead sending it to Israel. Doesn’t it feel to be kicked to the curb and promises of billion dollars support to Ukrainehas vanished. In fact, the pentagon was just about to send 400 million USD but instead whittle it down to 125 million USD and saying it is drying up. News reports in last few weeks show that western leaders are getting sick of Zalinski. It means all those Ukrainian politicians that got so rich off of American taxpayers’money and bought million dollars houses in Spain, Italy, Switzerland, Portug and Monaco will have their money cut off soon. Basically, USA and other westerns have admitted that there is no way that Ukraine wins this war and peace talks is the only way.  But Zalinski doesn’t seem interested in peace talks and want every Ukrainian to die for the country that is why he asked this week to change and compromise on the military recruitment standards once again and officially cancelled the Ukrainian elections; desperate people do desperate things.

Now getting back to President Putin really stunning moves that caught the West totally off guard. Firstly,Mr Putin removed Russia from the Comprehensive Nuclear Test-ban Treaty (CTBT). This is basically a threat of nuclear use without explicitly issuing a direct threat of their use. Putin’s approval of thisratification law was posted then on government website which says that the decision took immediate effect. Russai’s Duma; lower house and Federation Council; upper house, has unanimously approved it.It means Russia could literally test nuclear weapons something it hasn’t done since 1990. Russia’s underline message to the west is ‘hey, times been changed. We are nuclear power that just destroyed NATO forces in Ukraineand now don’t tell us what to do with our nuclear power’.

Secondly, as US Congress gave Biden the power to go to war with Iran, is basically a message that if the war expands and Hezbollah opens up a second front in the north against Israel in a substantial way to overwhelm iron dome then we should hit the Islamic Republic of Iran. While all of this adding up, Russia’sforeign minter clearly said that “supplies to and from Iran of products falling under Missile Technology Control Regime no longer require prior approval by the UN Security Council”.Here we go, the US domination is outspokenly challenged. Remember that Russia has grown close to Iran since invading Ukraine in February 2022 and itself being shunned by the West.Alongside Putin’s meeting Chinese premier, few weeks ago where President Putin was flanked by soldiers carrying the nuclear codes briefcase was a show of solidarity with China for their Belt and Road Initiative.

Now the question is, whether west is sincere to stop bloodshed and not let the war grow? The loss of 11,000 innocent lives in just one month, coupled with instances of soldiers planting the Israeli flag in Gaza, provide enough ground to crop the war in the region, so penetrating the appearances of western efforts seem mala-fide. While mainstream Western media and opinion makers focuses on condemning the inhumane act of October 07, which indeed is, it often overlooks the broader context of Palestinian suffering, encompassing forced displacements, arbitrary detentions, home demolitions, and restricted movement, forced by Israel and supported by West for over a century. This western disparity highlights the need to shake the order and that is what Russia and its allies seem interested in.

These are the witnessing times where the US led global world order fracturing before our eyes. The unipolar order is in disorder, and westerns have to realize that times are gone when you come and you conquer, now you got to face the consequences.

‘Hell on Earth’

Palestinian lives matter

DO Palestinian lives matter? Clearly, in the eyes of the global elite —both in the East and the West — they do not, with the Palestinian body count rising as Israel continues its savage assault on Gaza. A UN official aptly described the forsaken Palestinian region as “hell on earth”.

With the Israeli onslaught entering its sixth week, there are no signs that the plight of Gaza’s people will ease anytime soon. In particular, the Israeli war on Gaza’s hospitals is despicable, as the world over, medical facilities are considered off limits during hostilities.

When health centres are attacked, such as the 2020 terrorist strike on a maternity home in Kabul’s Dasht-i-Barchi area, there is universal revulsion. In slaughtering children, the elderly and infirm, Israel is employing the same tactics that some of the world’s worst perpetrators of terrorist violence do.

Last month when the Al Ahli Hospital was hit, there was global condemnation of this repulsive act, even though Israel tried to deflect criticism by claiming that an errant Palestinian missile had hit the facility, despite compelling evidence that this was the handiwork of the Israeli Defence Forces. The war on Gazan hospitals continues, as reports indicate that the Al Shifa and Al Quds medical facilities have ceased operations.

At least six premature babies have apparently died due to power shortages at Al Shifa. In total, the UN asserts, half of Gaza’s hospitals and a third of its primary health centres have become dysfunctional. The WHO chief has described the situation as “dire and perilous”.

This grotesque bloodbath is being carried out in full view of the world. Where are the champions of human rights in Western capitals who never tire of hectoring others on doing the right thing?

Where are the great supporters of the ummah who say that the world’s Muslims are one body, and suffering in one part, means suffering for all? Where are the standard-bearers of Arab nationalism, who loudly proclaim that from the Atlantic shores of the Maghreb to the warm waters of the Gulf they are one nation?

The Gazan massacre is a shameful example of the indifference of the global elite, and the impunity of a well-armed bully — supported by the world’s greatest economic and military powers — that slaughters the innocent without compunction in the name of vengeance.

Students of history have read about how Attila, Genghis Khan and Hitler committed unspeakable massacres. Israel’s bloodthirsty leadership — the ‘only democracy in the Middle East’ in the eyes of its Western cheerleaders — should be added to this grim list for what it has done to the Palestinian people over the last six weeks.

History will never forget the screams of dying Palestinian children, and should never forgive those who perpetrated and aided this monstrous crime. Courtesy Dawn

The Morocco-Azerbaijan Business Forum scheduled for Tuesday in Rabat promises to further strengthen economic ties between the two countries, reflecting the importance of this promising relationship for the future.

Discussions at this session of the Joint Commission also focused on the prospects for establishing triangular cooperation for the benefit of African partner countries. This initiative is in line with the High Guidelines of HM King Mohammed VI, who places Africa and South-South cooperation at the heart of the Kingdom’s foreign policy. Azerbaijan is also showing a growing interest in developing its relations with the African continent, paving the way for mutually beneficial opportunities for the triangular activities envisaged.

The fixture will be played in the week leading up to the first Test of the Men’s Test Series between Australia and Pakistan in Perth. The match, whose tickets have been put on sale, returns to a four-day red ball fixture after last year’s day/night pink ball match against the West Indies. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese will meet with Cricket Australia Chair of Selectors, George Bailey and selector, Tony Dodemaide to discuss selection of the squad.

“Pakistan is such a proud cricketing nation. I’ve previously loved watching players like Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis steaming in with the new ball, so I’m excited the PM’s XI will face the talented Pakistan squad in Canberra. In the coming weeks, I will meet with the National Selectors to discuss what I suspect will be a strong PM’s XI,” said Prime Minister Albanese in a statement.

It will be the third time Pakistan will face the Prime Minister’s XI after matches in 1990 and 2005 while Mr Albanese is the 10th Prime Minister to lead the team.

“We are looking forward to meeting with the Prime Minister and I’m sure those selected will be excited for the challenge of facing the quality of Pakistan. As the Australian Men’s Test team continues to evolve in the short to medium term, the timing of the match comes at an important stage of the summer with five home Tests and two away in New Zealand.”

“We’ve seen some strong individual performances to start the Sheffield Shield season and with another round left before the squad will be selected, we are looking forward to seeing players continue to put their hands up for selection. Opportunities to face international opposition like this are rare and taken seriously, and as such we are looking to select a strong and highly talented squad,” said Bailey.

It will be played in the week leading up to the first Test between Pakistan and Australia at the Perth Stadium on 14 December and it will mark the first instance of the Men in Green playing a Test at the venue. The two teams will face off in the Boxing Day Test at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground from 26 till 30 December and the third and final match will be played at the Sydney Cricket Ground from 3 January, 2024.
