Islamabad : Pakistan has reaffirmed its commitment to the founding principles of Non-Aligned Movement, embodying the movement’s collective aspiration for peace, equality, cooperation and well-being of all.
In a video statement at the High-Level Commemorative Meeting hosted by Serbia to mark the 60th Anniversary of NAM, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said those principles are as relevant today as they were sixty years ago.
The Foreign Minister expressed concern over the resurgence of great powers’ tensions and a renewed global arms race.
He urged for renunciation of anachronistic Cold War concepts of strategic competition, military alliances, global or regional dominance, foreign intervention and occupation.
Noting NAM’s principled support for the right of self-determination of people living under foreign occupation, he highlighted the situation in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir and Palestine where this right is being denied.
The Foreign Minister called upon NAM and international community to secure a just, peaceful and expeditious resolution of these long-standing disputes, in accordance with the UNSC resolutions and aspirations of local people.
The Foreign Minister also shared Pakistan’s perspective on contemporary global issues such as COVID-19 pandemic and climate change.
