ISLAMABAD – Elections for the Chairmanship of Senate Standing/functional Committees (11 standing and 2 functional committees), under rule 184 (1) of the Rules of Procedures and Conduct of business of the Senate, 2012, were held here at Parliament House, on Wednesday.
1- Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed was unanimously elected as the Chairman of the Senate Standing Committee on Ministry of Defence. Committee members Senator Hidayat Ullah and Senator Mushtaq Ahmed nominated Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed for the chairmanship of the Senate Defense Committee.
2- Senator Sherry Rehman was unanimously elected as the Chairperson of the Senate Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs. Senator Saadia Abbasi and Senator Palwasha Mohammad Zai Khan seconded the name for the Chairpersonship of Senator Sherry Rehman and endorsed by the member’s committee.
3- Senator Faisal Ali Sabzwari was unanimously elected as the Chairman of the Senate Standing Committee on Industry and Production. Senator Imamuddin Shouqeen and Shamim Afridi nominated the name for the chairmanship which were seconded by all the committee members.
4- Senator Manzoor Ahmed Kakar was unanimously elected as the Chairman of the Senate Standing Committee on Overseas Pakistani and Human Resource. His name for the chairmanship was nominated by Senator Khalida Ateeb and Senator Keshoo Bai and all members supported it.
5- Senator Rana Maqbool Ahmed has been unanimously elected as the Chairman of the Standing Committee on Cabinet Secretariat. Senator Saadia Abbasi and Senator Muhammad Talha Mahmood nominated Senator Rana Maqbool for the chairmanship.
6- Senator Syed Ali Zafar has been unanimously elected as the Chairman of the Senate Standing Committee on Law and Justice. Senator Shibli Faraz and Senator Saleem Mandviwalla nominated him for the chairmanship of the committee
7- Senator Faisal Javed has been unanimously elected as the Chairman of the Senate Standing Committee on Information and Broadcasting. Senator Muhammad Tahir Bizinjo and Senator Syed Ali Zafar seconded his name for the Chairmanship.
8- Senator Muhammad Abdul Qadir has been elected as the Chairman of the Senate Standing Committee on Petroleum. Senator Naseebullah Bazai and Senator Fida Mohammad suggested his name and endorsed by the rest of the members.
9- Senator Saifullah Abro has been elected as the Chairman of the Standing Committee on Power. Senator Fida Mohammad and Senator Zeeshan Khanzada nominated him for the chairmanship of the committee.
10- Senator Taj Haider has been Unanimously elected as the chairman of the Standing Committee on Parliamentary Affairs. Senator Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar and Senator Shamim Afridi suggested his name.
11- Senator Farooq Hamid Naek has been unanimously elected as the Chairman of the Senate Committee of Delegated Legislation. Senator Yousuf Raza Gilani and Senator Kauda Babar nominated him for the chairmanship.
12- Senator Mushtaq Ahmed has been unanimously elected as the chairman of the Functional Committee on Devolution. Senator Khalida Ateeb and Senator Ejaz Ahmad Chaudhary nominated him for the chairmanship.
13- Senator Kamil Ali Agha has been unanimously elected as the Chairman of the Functional Committee on Government Assurance. Senator Mirza Muhammad Afridi and Senator Dilawar Khan nominated him for the chairmanship.
