KALAT: At least nine North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (Nato) oil tankers were torched during an attack in the Sohrab district of Balochistan on Friday, DNA reported.

According to the police, the oil tankers were incinerated when unknown motorcyclists targeted them with rockets in the Sohrab area near Kalat.

Police moreover said one of the drivers of the oil tankers was missing following the attack. However, no loss of life was reported in the incident.

Meanwhile, levies and police personnel cordoned off the area but no arrests were made till the filing of this report.

It is pertinent to mention that overland oil supplies to Nato troops in Afghanistan resumed through Pakistan earlier this month with stepped up security after a four-month hiatus due to attacks.

Pakistani contractors stopped driving oil supplies from Karachi on the Arabian Sea to the Torkham crossing on the Afghan border in June due to frequent attacks on their vehicles.

Pakistan is a key transit route for the Nato mission in landlocked Afghanistan.

From November 2011 to July 2012, Pakistan shut its Afghan border to all overland Nato traffic after US air raids killed 24 Pakistani troops.

Pakistan and the United States have signed a deal allowing Nato convoys to travel into Afghanistan until the end of 2015.
