Japan confers high imperial honor on former envoy Farukh Amil

ISLAMABAD, NOV 3 /DNA/ – Government of Japan announced the 2026 Fall Conferment of Decorations on Foreign Nationals. H.E. Mr. Farukh Akhter Amil, former Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to Japan, was decorated with “the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star”, in recognition of his contributions towards strengthening bilateral relations and promoting friendship between Japan and Pakistan.

H.E. Mr. Farukh Akhter Amil had served as Ambassador of Pakistan to Japan from 2013 to 2017. He enhanced the Japan-Pakistan relations in many fields, including cultural and people-to-people exchanges. In August 2015, he invited Her Imperial Highness Princess Takamado to the calligraphy exhibition held at the Embassy of Pakistan in Japan, symbolically strengthening cultural ties with the Imperial Family. Moreover, he delivered lectures at more than 50 universities across Japan and engaged in repeated direct dialogue with students and researchers, greatly promoting mutual understanding among the younger generations who will shape the future.

In addition to his distinguished diplomatic activities, he has made significant contributions to Japanese people. Shortly after his arrival as Ambassador of Pakistan to Japan, he visited Fukushima, a prefecture devastated by the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake, clearly demonstrating his commitment to standing with those affected by the disaster. This visit took place before the presentation of credentials, and the fact that a foreign ambassador who had recently taken up his post personally traveled to the affected area elicited deep gratitude from local residents. Local residents described it as “unforgettable support,” and his visit left a lasting impression on the hearts of the people in Fukushima.

Furthermore, even after completing his term as Ambassador of Pakistan to Japan, he continued to work tirelessly to promote understanding of Japan. In February 2025, he co-hosted a photo exhibition titled “Beautiful Japan – Through the Eyes of an Ambassador” with the Embassy of Japan in Pakistan, which displayed the photos that he had taken in Japan during his tenure as ambassador and the exhibition was covered by 14 major newspapers in Pakistan.
