PPP to continue struggle to protect rights of people of Gilgit-Baltistan: Faryal Talpur

KARACHI, Nov 01 (DNA):Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Women’s Wing Central President Faryal Talpur has extended her heartiest congratulations to the people of Gilgit-Baltistan on the region’s 79th Independence Day, saying November 1 is a memorable day in our history when the brave people of Gilgit-Baltistan raised the banner of revolt against the oppressive rule of the Dogra regime and lit the flame of freedom.

Their courage, sacrifices and resolve, she said, are an unforgettable treasure of our national history. In her message, Faryal Talpur said that Quaid-e-Awam Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto laid the foundation for freeing the people of Gilgit-Baltistan from an exploitative system through historic reforms, including the abolition of the FCR and the feudal order.

Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto carried forward the journey of political representation and empowerment in the region in 1994 by establishing the Legislative Council.

President Asif Ali Zardari, during his first term, gave Gilgit-Baltistan a new political identity, an elected assembly and an empowered, province-style administrative structure through the 2009 reforms package.

She added that PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, carrying forward the same pro-people vision, is continuously raising his voice for the democratic, constitutional and fundamental rights of the people of Gilgit-Baltistan, their political autonomy, and equal development opportunities.

Faryal Talpur said the love and attachment of the people of Gilgit-Baltistan for Pakistan is an unbreakable bond that endures from generation to generation. Fulfilling their dreams, securing a bright future for the youth, and ensuring that the fruits of development reach every citizen is our collective responsibility.

She reaffirmed that the PPP will continue its struggle to protect the rights of the people of Gilgit-Baltistan and to secure a better future for them.
