PESHAWAR, Oct 23 (DNA):The Agriculture Extension Department on Friday organised an awareness programme in Billitang to encourage farmers to adopt modern farming techniques and improve crop production and income in rain-fed areas of Kohat.
Farmers from Billitang and Togh attended the event, along with Deputy Director Agriculture Muhammad Shoaib, Agriculture Officer Kashif Afridi, MFSC Kohat Press Secretary and social worker Isar Ali Bangash, former Billitang Nazim Muhammad Faheem, former Togh Bala Nazim Rahim Khan and other officials.
Speakers highlighted the importance of modern agricultural practices in increasing crop yields, improving rural livelihoods and strengthening the local economy, particularly in areas that depend on rainfall for cultivation.
Agriculture experts guided farmers on modern techniques for wheat and chickpea cultivation, establishing fruit orchards, applying fertilisers in balanced quantities and using pesticides effectively.
They also explained ways to protect crops from diseases and pests, maintain soil fertility and use available agricultural resources efficiently.
The speakers stressed that quality seeds, appropriate cultivation methods and improved orchard management could help farmers increase production in rain-dependent areas.
They also emphasised the need to raise awareness of modern farming technologies and available support services to help farmers improve their agricultural practices.
Participants welcomed the initiative and called for more such programmes to enhance farmers’ technical skills and provide them with practical guidance on improving crop productivity.
