NEW YORK, AUG 18 /DNA/ – In a historic first, Pakistan’s Independence Day was celebrated inside the iconic New York City Hall, marking an unprecedented milestone in the history of Pakistan–US community relations in New York. The event was jointly organized by New York City Council Speaker Julie Menin and Council Member Linda Lee, in collaboration with the American Pakistani Advocacy Group (APAG).
Consul General for Pakistan in New York, Mr. Aamer Ahmed Atozai, attended the landmark event and addressed the gathering. In his remarks, the Consul General commended APAG and the participating parliamentarians for their efforts in bringing the celebration to City Hall and for their affection and enduring commitment to Pakistan. He termed the occasion a proud and memorable moment for the Pakistani American community.
A large number of Pakistani Americans, elected representatives, parliamentarians and media persons attended the event. Speaker Julie Menin praised the Pakistani American community for its valuable contributions to the progress and development of New York City, as well as its strong commitment to both Pakistan and the United States.
Other parliamentarians also lauded the community for its perseverance, hard work and dedication, highlighting its important role as a bridge between Pakistan and the United States.
The historic celebration underscored the growing recognition and positive contributions of the Pakistani American community to the civic, economic and social fabric of New York City.
