ISTANBUL, AUG 10 /DNA/ – In a landmark event coinciding with International Youth Day, the D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation officially inaugurated the “D-8 Youth Bridges Programme” today in Istanbul. The initiative marks a significant step toward harnessing the demographic dividend of the D-8 member states by connecting young entrepreneurs with global experts.
The launch ceremony, held at a prominent venue in Istanbul, brought together delegates from Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan, and Turkey. The programme is designed to serve as a dynamic platform for knowledge-exchange, skills development, and networking, directly linking enterprising youth with international experts and industry leaders.
The D-8 Youth Bridges Programme is being implemented in close collaboration with the United Nations, underscoring a shared commitment to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through youth-led innovation and economic participation.
“We believe that the energy and creativity of our youth are the greatest assets of the D-8 nations,” said a representative of the D-8 Organization during the opening ceremony. “This programme is not just about training; it is about building bridges—bridges between ideas and execution, between local challenges and global solutions, and between our member states.”
The United Nations commended the initiative, highlighting its alignment with global efforts to address youth unemployment and promote inclusive growth.
The D-8 Youth Bridges Programme is structured to provide a holistic experience for participants, focusing on four core pillars:
- Knowledge Exchange: Participants will engage in masterclasses and seminars led by international experts, covering emerging fields such as green technology, digital finance, and artificial intelligence.
- Skills Development: The curriculum includes practical workshops aimed at enhancing entrepreneurial competencies, project management, and leadership skills.
- Entrepreneurship: A key component of the programme is the “Pitch Incubator,” which will provide seed funding and mentorship to the most promising business proposals developed during the sessions.
- Networking: The initiative serves as a melting pot for cultures and ideas, fostering a robust network of young leaders who can collaborate on cross-border economic projects.
The inaugural session, which runs through the week, is expected to generate a roadmap for youth economic participation that will be presented to the D-8 Summits in the coming years. As the programme expands, it aims to create a sustainable model for youth engagement that can be replicated across the Global South.
