PESHAWAR, Mar 24: A local court here on Tuesday rejected the bail applications of around 50 Afghan nationals residing illegally in the city.
The hearing was conducted by Additional District and Sessions Judge, Mirza Muhammad Kashif. During the proceedings, the court dismissed the bail requests of the detainees, stating that none of them possessed valid legal or travel documents.
According to the prosecution, the arrests were made during police raids conducted in various areas under the jurisdictions of Shahid Gulfat Hussain and Inqilab police stations. The Afghans were taken into custody for violating immigration laws and were booked under the Foreign Act.
The accused had filed bail petitions in the sessions court seeking their release. However, after reviewing the case, the court rejected all applications except one.
The court granted bail to one Afghan national on humanitarian grounds, as he was suffering from cancer and required medical treatment.
All other detainees have been ordered to remain in jail until further legal proceedings.
