PESHAWAR, Oct 05 (DNA):The Sadiq Pashto Literary Jirga Teri has planned a series of literary programmes over the next three to four months to promote Pashto language and literature and take the message of Jashn-e-Khushal to communities across the region.
The decision was taken at the jirga’s monthly meeting held at Al-Sadiq Public High School Teri under the chairmanship of Professor Aziz Qureshi in Karak.
Abdul Ghafoor recited verses from the Holy Quran at the beginning of the meeting. Shakeel Qureshi of Cadet College Teri attended as chief guest, while Habibullah from Mamikhel was the guest of honour.
The participants agreed to organise literary programmes in Mamikhel, Cadet College Teri, Mardan Khel and Bairgai, besides holding an event in collaboration with literary figures from Makor.
The jirga said the initiatives were aimed at promoting interest in Pashto language and literature and expanding literary activities at the grassroots level.
The participants also thanked poet and writer Makham Khattak for sending books from Karachi and appreciated his contribution to Pashto literature.
The meeting also offered prayers for the departed souls and for the safe and successful Umrah journeys of jirga member Pervez Chambeli and patron-in-chief Sarwar Mahmood Khattak.
An open poetry session was held at the end of the meeting, in which Professor Aziz Qureshi, Ayub Sultan Bandiwan, Sarwar Mahmood Khattak, Pervez Chambeli and Zakria Khattak presented their poetry.
Shakeel Qureshi appreciated the jirga’s efforts and assured participants of his continued support for its literary activities.
