Peace journalism to highlight potential solutions, open dialogue: Speakers

            LAHORE, Oct 4 (DNA): The speakers said on Sunday that the objective of peace journalism is to highlight the background, potential solutions, and avenues for dialogue regarding conflicts and disputes, rather than exacerbating them.

They expressed these remarks during a special seminar on the topic of “Peace Journalism” was organised by the Department of Journalism at Punjab University, which was attended by a large number of faculty members and students.

Participants included Brigadier (Retd) Babar Alauddin, Major (Retd) Meisam Raza, Dean of the Faculty of Information Sciences Dr. Nosheen Saleem, Chairperson of the Department of Journalism Dr. Hanan Ahmed, and Dr. Tanveer, alongside other faculty and students.

Addressing the seminar, speakers emphasized that journalism is not simply about disseminating news but constitutes a vital social responsibility. Journalists play a crucial role in shaping public opinion, promoting peace, and fostering national unity within society.

They further noted that in the current era, promoting peace, tolerance, and positive dialogue through journalism is an urgent need. They stressed that journalists must prioritize responsibility, research, and professional ethics while preparing and disseminating news
