ISLAMABAD: The Collectorate of Customs (Enforcement), Gadani, has seized over Rs 154 million worth of smuggled goods in a series of intelligence-based operations across Balochistan’s Makran Division, Lasbela, and Hub. The operations targeted foreign-origin betel nuts, cosmetics, Iranian edible oil, and other illegal items.
According to a press release issued on Wednesday, the Pakistan Customs enforcement teams, in coordination with other law-enforcement agencies, conducted multiple successful raids. These actions are part of a broader national crackdown on smuggling aimed at protecting the national economy.
Major Haul in Lasbela: Buses with Hidden Cavities Intercepted
In a significant joint operation with the Intelligence Bureau (IB) in Hub, the Field Enforcement Unit Khurkhera intercepted two passenger buses in the Lasbela area. A detailed search revealed substantial quantities of foreign-origin betel nuts, cosmetics, cigarettes, Indian Gutka, and parachute cloth. The contraband was cleverly concealed in specially created hidden cavities within the buses. The cumulative value of the seized goods and the carriers is estimated at over Rs. 130 million.
Hub Godown Raided, Gwadar Coastal Highway Checkpoint Seized Iranian Oil
In a separate action, the Mobile Enforcement Unit, Hub, raided a godown in the Hub area, recovering a large quantity of plastic shopper bags and skimmed milk powder valued at approximately Rs. 20 million. The seized items were moved to the State Warehouse, Gadani.
Meanwhile, the Field Enforcement Unit Gwadar, while conducting strict checking on the Coastal Highway, intercepted 750 kilograms of smuggled Iranian edible oil. The oil, packed in 150 tins, is valued at approximately Rs. 4 million. This operation highlights the ongoing efforts to protect legitimate trade along key routes.
Pakistan Customs has reiterated its resolve to continue intelligence-based and coordinated anti-smuggling operations across the region to curb the illegal movement of goods and safeguard the national economy.
