ISLAMABAD, SEP 14 /DNA/ – Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi has emphasized that the provincial government’s foremost priority must be the elimination of terrorism and the establishment of sustainable peace in the province, as development and prosperity are impossible without security.
During a meeting with newspaper editors in Islamabad, Governor Kundi discussed the country’s political situation, law and order in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, constitutional and financial rights of the province, and other key issues. He expressed regret that both provincial and federal governments have neglected the province, noting that current priorities conflict with public interests and that restoring peace should be the government’s main focus.
Kundi highlighted the sacrifices made by the people, police, and security forces in the fight against terrorism, insisting that peace must remain the government’s top agenda. He called for unity among all political parties to secure the province’s rights and present a strong case before the federation.
Speaking on the merged districts, he criticized the ruling party for failing to fulfill promises made to residents over the past 15 years. He stressed that providing resources, equal opportunities, and development to these areas is the government’s responsibility. He also noted weak administrative control in southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, urging the government to ensure protection and governance across all regions..
Commenting on Maryam Nawaz’s statement about provinces, Kundi questioned whether Punjab does not benefit from Khyber .Pakhtunkhwa’s water, electricity, oil, and gas. He said the federation’s strength depends on respecting the rights of all provinces..
On PTI’s long march, he remarked that even within the party there are conflicting views. He said serious leadership prefers dialogue over confrontation, adding that the matter is currently under judicial review and future steps will depend on the court’s decision..
Kundi also noted that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has so far remained relatively safe from major climate change impacts this year. He shared that work is underway on establishing an SIUT hospital in Dera Ismail Khan with funds provided by PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
He praised the media’s role in highlighting public issues and amplifying the voice of the people, acknowledging journalists’ efforts in bringing Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s challenges to national attention.
The meeting was attended by editors including Aamir Ghouri (The News), Aziz Alvi (Nawa-i-Waqt), Ansar Mahmood Bhatti (Daily Islamabad Post), Ejaz Ahmed (GNN TV), and Ali Furqan (News One).
