ISLAMABAD, AUG 30 /DNA/ – The Capital Development Authority (CDA), in line with the decision of the government conveyed through Secretary MOI has intensified enforcement of fire and life safety standards across Islamabad, making it clear that the protection of precious human lives will remain the CDA’s top most priority.
In a significant enforcement action, the CDA has sealed Shaheed-e-Millat Secretariat, State Life Building and Trade Development Authority of Pakistan Building in Blue Area Islamabad following non compliance with fire safety observations issued by the CDA’s Fire & Emergency Services Directorate CDA as earlier which they have not been complied. The action has been taken in accordance with the prescribed safety requirements and reflects CDA’s firm commitment to ensuring that buildings provide a safe environment for employees, visitors and the general public.
Chairman CDA Sohail Ashraf has directed the concerned formations of CDA to adopt a zero tolerance approach towards serious fire safety violations and ensure strict compliance with safety standards. He has emphasized that no building, institution or organization can be permitted to compromise the lives and safety of people by ignoring essential fire prevention and emergency response requirements.
The CDA’s Fire & Emergency Services Directorate has been conducting inspections of buildings to identify deficiencies relating to fire prevention, emergency exits, firefighting arrangements, evacuation preparedness and other essential life safety measures. Building Control Section of CDS has been advised to rectify identified deficiencies within the prescribed timeframe.
The sealing of the two buildings demonstrates that CDA’s fire safety campaign is not merely an inspection exercise but a practical enforcement initiative aimed at preventing avoidable loss of life and property. Buildings failing to comply with mandatory safety requirements will face action in accordance with applicable rules and regulations.
Chairman CDA Sohail Ashraf has further directed the relevant departments to maintain close monitoring of fire safety compliance and ensure that safety observations are followed by effective corrective measures. The objective is to develop a strong culture of prevention, preparedness and responsibility throughout Islamabad.
CDA has urged all government departments, public sector organizations, commercial establishments, private building owners and managements to immediately review their fire safety arrangements and ensure full compliance with the prescribed standards.
The Chairman CDA has reiterated that fire safety is a collective responsibility. Timely installation and maintenance of firefighting equipment, clear emergency exits, proper evacuation arrangements and compliance with safety protocols can save lives during an emergency.
The ongoing enforcement drive is part of CDA’s broader efforts to transform Islamabad into a safe, secure, modern and well managed capital, where public safety, quality infrastructure and effective governance remain central to urban management.
CDA has made it clear that while every opportunity will be provided to building administrations to rectify deficiencies, continued non compliance with essential fire and life safety requirements will not be tolerated.
