ISLAMABAD, AUG 12 /DNA/ – President Asif Ali Zardari formally received the credentials of Ambassador-designate of Italy, Ugo Ciarlatani, and Ambassador-designate of the Republic of Korea, Han Sungho, at a ceremony held at Aiwan-e-Sadr today.
During his meeting with Ambassador Ciarlatani, the President expressed optimism that the envoy’s tenure would further strengthen bilateral relations between Pakistan and Italy. He highlighted the steady growth in ties, particularly in trade and investment, noting that bilateral trade has now surpassed the US$1 billion mark. The President also welcomed the recent signing of an agreement on the abolition of visa requirements for diplomatic passport holders.
President Zardari appreciated Italy’s support for Pakistan’s candidature for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council for the 2025-26 term. He also underscored the importance of the Pakistani community in Italy, describing them as a vital bridge fostering people-to-people connections between the two countries.
In his separate meeting with Ambassador Han Sungho, the President reaffirmed that Pakistan attaches great importance to its multidimensional relationship with the Republic of Korea. He expressed Pakistan’s strong desire to further expand trade and investment ties, noting the ongoing negotiations for a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement. The President also welcomed enhanced cooperation with Korea in the fields of climate change, development, and defence.
President Zardari expressed hope that collaboration between the two countries in shipbuilding, technology, and economic development would continue to grow in the coming years.
Senator Saleem Mandviwalla and the Secretary of Foreign Affairs were also present during the meetings.
