Mushahid Hussain Sayed calls for new global south order

BEIJING, JUL 20 /DNA/ – Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed, giving his keynote address to the World Peace Forum (WPF), organized by the prestigious Tsinghua University, here in the Chinese capital, said “the time has come for a new global order to emerge from the Global South since the post-World War-II Western-led rules-based order is unraveling due to double standard as it neither promoted Order nor was based on any Rules”. The World Peace Forum was addressed by the Vice President of China, Han Zheng, whose speech in the inaugural session was followed by Senator Mushahid Hussain’s keynote address to an audience of about 100 international guests from 30 countries. Speakers at the WPF, including the former foreign ministers of Indonesia and Serbia as well as the Chinese hosts, lauded Pakistan’s proactive diplomacy which they said is a “source of strength for peace, security and stability in the greater Middle East region and South Asia”.

Senator Mushahid Hussain also referred to the significance of 2026 for Pakistan-China relations as it marked 75 years of their diplomatic relations and he termed this relationship as a unique partnership between the two neighbours, who have now developed into “Iron Brothers” with a multi-faceted broad-based relationship that has no parallel in recent international relations. He also referred to the Strategic Work Plan for Pakistan-China relations from 2026-2030 which is the blueprint for broadening, expanding and strengthening this bilateral bond. Speaking of China’s role, he lauded the Chinese wisdom, reflecting the experience of a 5000 year old civilization that has risen peacefully without any aggression, invasion, occupation or colonization and today, it stands at par with the United States of America as a preeminent global power. This fact was recognized by President Trump during his visit to China in May when he referred to China-America relations as G2.

Senator Mushahid Hussain also said that “it is a tribute to China’s deft diplomacy, the China has won 2 wars within one year without firing a single shot, referring to the Indo-Pakistan conflict and the US-Israeli war against Iran as Chinese technology triumphed in the conflict in South Asia against Western technology. Similarly, China is the principled power that enjoys confidence of all parties amidst the fallout of the Gulf conflict”.

Talking about regional cooperation in South Asia, Senator Mushahid Hussain compared the success of ASEAN and the failure of SAARC and said that the main reason was that ‘Indonesia as a large country, maintained a low-profile and a respectful attitude of equality and reciprocity in ASEAN, unlike India, which tried to bully its small SAARC neighbours’. During Senator Mushahid Hussain’s speech, former Indian National Security Adviser and High Commissioner to Pakistan, Shiv Shankar Menon, was also present in the audience.

Concluding his address, Senator Mushahid Hussain fondly recalled his visit to China as a college student in the early 70s and quoted Chairman Mao on how to overcome all obstacles: “nothing is hard in this world, if you dare to scale the heights”! This quotation of Chairman Mao was very well received by the audience.

On the invitation of the International Department of the Communist Party of China (IDCPC), Senator Mushahid Hussain also chaired a dialogue among Asian countries and scholars from Kyrgyzstan, Nepal, Cambodia and China at a special conference on “Xi Jinping Thought and poverty alleviation’ held at Ningxia, a region in Western China. Chairing the dialogue, Senator Mushahid Hussain lauded China’s amazing success story in poverty alleviation as it lifted 800 million people out of poverty within a period of 40 years as a result of which, absolute poverty has been eliminated in China. This conference at Ningxia was attended by 150 political leaders, opinion leaders, media and think tanks from five continents including Asia, Africa, Latin America, Europe and North America. During his stay, Senator Mushahid Hussain met top Chinese leaders including Vice President Han Zheng & Minister of IDCPC, Liu Haixing.
