ISLAMABAD, May 9 /DNA/ – The Embassy of Russia on May 7, 2026 marked the 81st anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War with a memorial march, cultural performances and a photo exhibition in Pakistan.
Diplomats from 6 Central Asian countries, embassy officials, members of the Russian community and families joined the commemorative events held in the federal capital.
The celebrations began with the “Immortal Regiment” march, a remembrance campaign held every year around Victory Day on May 9. Participants carried portraits of relatives who fought, died or supported the Soviet Union during the Second World War.
The march was attended by Russian Chargé d’Affaires Natalia Shmeleva, Russian Defence Attaché Vadim Fenchenko, ambassadors from Belarus, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, along with their families, embassy staff and members of the Russian community living in Pakistan.
The “Immortal Regiment” campaign is organized annually to honor people who took part in the war effort against Nazi Germany. The march aims to preserve the memory of those who fought during the war and to pass their stories to younger generations.
As part of the Victory Day events, the Russian Embassy School hosted a commemorative concert attended by diplomats from Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
Speaking at the event, Natalia Shmeleva said Victory Day remained a symbol of courage, unity and sacrifice by the people of the former Soviet Union during the war. She said millions of people suffered and lost their lives in the fight against Nazism.
She also criticized attempts to change historical facts related to the war and opposed efforts aimed at reviving Nazi ideology. She said Russia would continue to protect and preserve the memory of the Soviet Union’s victory in the war.
During the concert, children of embassy staff presented wartime poetry and dedicated to the people who fought in the conflict. The performances focused on the experiences of families affected by war and the importance of remembering those who lost their lives.
Guests at the event also viewed a photo exhibition titled “Saved Europe.” The exhibition was prepared by the National Center for Historical Memory under the President of the Russian Federation and featured historical images linked to the role of Soviet forces during the Second World War.
