SINGAPORE, Jan. 20 (DNA): Singapore’s Changi Airport has begun operating its first fleet of fully driverless autonomous tractors on the airside, following nearly a year of trials, the Changi Airport Group said on Tuesday.
Two autonomous tractors are now in live operations, transporting passenger baggage between the baggage handling areas of Terminals 1 and 4, the group said in a statement. An additional six tractors are set to be deployed on another route later this year.
Changi plans to expand the fleet to 24 autonomous tractors by 2027, it said.
Each tractor is equipped with more than 10 sensors and cameras, allowing it to navigate the airside environment safely in day and night conditions and in wet weather. The vehicles are remotely monitored from a control center, where operators can intervene immediately if required.
