Need for expanding Trade & Investment Ties between Pakistan and Belarus Stressed

Belarus, NOV 7 /DNA/ – The Ambassador of Pakistan to Belarus Sajjad Haider Khan participated in the XII International Investment Forum “Mill of success” held in the city of Mogilev, which was chaired by the Governor of Mogilev Region. The Minister of Economy of Belarus and Chairman Belarusian Chambers of Commerce & Industries were amongst the keynote speakers. The representatives of several countries, including government bodies, chambers of commerce and industry and members of the diplomatic corps attended the event. The Ambassador also visited the exhibition held on the side lines of the Investment Forum.  


Addressing the businesspersons during the reception held by the Governor in honour of the participants of the Investment Forum, the Ambassador highlighted the developing friendly ties between the two countries and invited the participants to benefit from the trade & investment opportunities between the two countries. During the event, the Ambassador also met with the Governor of Mogilev region Leonid Zayats, appreciated his leadership in organizing the business forum and shared Pakistan’s desire to strengthen mutually beneficial relations more specifically between Punjab and Mogilev which enjoy the status of sister regions.


Earlier during the day, the Ambassador visited the OJSC “Lenta”, a leading textile manufacturer. Director General Ms. Elena Shaytura and Deputy DG Mr. Sergey Larchenko briefed the Ambassador regarding the range of products being manufactured at the facility which include different types of ribbons, curtains, tablecloths, towels, and medical bandages etc.


The Ambassador also visited JSC “Mogotex”, largest manufacturer of textile products in the Republic of Belarus, a recognized leader in the market of Russia as well as countries of near and far abroad.  Director General Victor Matievich briefed about the operations of the company which has three factories covering weaving, finishing and sewing. Established in 1973, the company employees over 3000 staff and exports over Euro 50 million worth of textile products particularly home textile products i.e curtains, table covers and a wide range of fabrics for uniforms to foreign buyers including IKEA. 


Highlighting the strengths of the textile sector of Pakistan, the Ambassador invited the Belarusian textile companies to participate in one of the trade exhibitions held in Pakistan to explore further opportunities. During the interactions, the leadership of the two textile companies showed interest in importing raw materials from Pakistan required for production of home textile items and gauze bandages.
