BEIJING, Nov. 21  – Pakistan and China show strong will to boost agricultural cooperation, experts said while participating in a Webinar. According to a report carried by China Economic Net, the experts from the two countries during question-answer session spoke high about the importance of China-Pakistan Agricultural Cooperation and Prospects.

The webinar was organised in order to tap agricultural cooperation potential between the two countries in the fields of seed industry, agricultural product processing and agricultural investment.

Replying to a question, Zhang Qin, Vice President of China National Seed Association said, the Chinese government encourages private enterprises to enter into international cooperation in the seed industry.

She also gave an example of Biocentury Transgene (China) Co., Ltd, a private enterprise, which has entered Pakistan and cooperated with Pakistani local enterprises.

To a question, Muhammad Azeem Khan, Chairman of Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (PARC), confirmed that under CPEC Phase II, the Pakistani government would like to provide facilities to Chinese agricultural enterprises, including opportunities, funding and so on.

At the end of the webinar, Zhang Rui, Director of Center for Molecular Biology of Crops, Biotechnology Research Institute, CAAS, answered a question about how to improve Pakistani agricultural products including cotton, rice, and vegetables. She said China leads the world in crop research and development.

For example, China has helped increase the yield of rice in Pakistan by 38%. In terms of cotton, China’s gene research on insect-resistant cotton will promote the development of the cotton industry in Pakistan.

In addition, Chinese seed enterprises will give great support to Pakistani agricultural production in many respects, including breeding, scientific research and industrialization.
