ICCI calls for Furniture Mall in Islamabad to promote exports

ISLAMABAD, OCT 6 – Sardar Yasir Ilyas Khan, President, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry has called upon the government to allocate land for establishing a Furniture Mall in Islamabad in order to boost furniture industry and enhance its exports.

He said that Pakistan has huge potential to promote trade and exports of furniture products and the government should address key issues of this industry for its better growth.

He said this while addressing a delegation of Islamabad Furniture Manufacturers Association that visited ICCI led by President Farhan Khan to congratulate the newly elected Office Bearers of ICCI. Abdul Rehman Khan Vice President ICCI, Ajmal Baloch All Pakistan Anjuman-e-Tajiran, Former Senior Vice President ICCI Khalid Chaudhry, Executive Member Aslam Khokhar and Chairman All Pakistan Furniture Association Zahid Hussain were also present at the occasion.

Sardar Yasir Ilyas Khan said that the global furniture market was of billions of dollars, but Pakistan’s share in it was quite nominal and stressed that the government should develop furniture cities across the country to promote this industry and boost its exports.

He said that ICCI would try for the establishment of an industrial zone in Islamabad and furniture industry would also be given space in it for better growth. He assured to extend all possible cooperation to the Furniture Association to modernize the furniture industry and help resolve its key issues.

Speaking at the occasion, Farhan Khan, President, Islamabad Furniture Association congratulated Sardar Yasir Ilyas Khan and his team and hoped that they would play a positive role in resolving the problems of the furniture sector business community. He said that the foam manufacturing companies have unanimously increased the prices of foam which was badly affecting the business of the furniture industry and urged that the government should take action against this cartel.

Ajmal Baloch, President, All Pakistan Traders Association said that there was an urgent need to build a Display Center or Furniture Mall to promote the furniture industry, so the government should cooperate in this regard.

Furniture Association Chairman Wali Khan, Patron Chaudhry Mumtaz, All Pakistan Furniture Association Chairman Zahid Hussain, Senior Vice President Rana Mujahid, Vice President Haji Ijaz, General Secretary Muhammad Imran, Additional General Secretary Ahmed Habib and Finance Secretary Nisar Khan also congratulated the newly elected Office Bearers of ICCI and assured them of their cooperation to their efforts aimed at resolving the issues of business community.
