President Alvi says complete freedom of information in country

ISLAMABAD, JUN 20 (DNA) – President Arif Alvi has said the complete freedom of information is exist in the country.He was speaking at awards distribution ceremony in Islamabad, on Thursday.The President said the urge for seeking information has been in the world since time immemorial.He said first humans were used to spread information and the role was replaced by newspapers.However, the pace of transmission of information became very fast with the invention of radio.

He said later TV and now social media are shaping the information landscape to satisfy the information urge of people.

Dr. Arif Alvi said Pakistan being an Islamic state has a vision to adopt the model of state of Madinah.

He said the state of Madinah brought social revolution and granted rights to all segments of society.

He said moral fiber of Pakistan is strong which is manifested in the number of millions of Afghan refugees for decades.

Earlier the President gave awards to the CEOs of TV channels who contributed to public awareness by airing public service messages.

The first position was secured by ARY, while the Dawn was on the second and GNN was on the third position.

Addressing the ceremony Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan said government is cooperating with media to air public service messages for the collective good of society.

She said airing public service message is a national obligation which should be fulfilled. She said media has a very important role in highlighting the positive image of Pakistan at the global level.

She expressed gratitude to President Dr. Alvi for taking this initiative that is connected with public sentiments and requirements. She said president’s vision is to modernize the information sector.

Special Assistant on Information and Broadcasting said freedom of speech is a basic right of every citizen and the government of Pakistan under the leadership of Prime Minister is committed to provide this right to a common man.=DNA
