 The Muslim World League (MWL) organized the“15th Makkah Annual Conference” in Makkah on Sunday, 28 September 2014 which was attended by more than 500 scholars from the Kingdom and various other Islamic countries. The theme of the Conference was “Islamic Culture: Originality and Contemporaneity.

 

The Conference was opened by theCustodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. The speech was read out on behalf of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud by Makkah Emir Prince Mishal Bin Abdullah.

 He said it was the duty of the Ummah to abide by and protect Islamic culture at a time misconceptions and violence have created an atmosphere of confusion and chaos. He observed that Muslims should obey Allah in all their behaviors, be always proud that they are Muslims and preserve their Islamic identity. Dr Abdullah Bin Abdul Mohsen Al-Turki, the League’s Secretary General of the MWL stated this international gathering was meant to discuss ways and means of fighting terrorism and to consider the problems of Muslims around the World.

The participants called for the formulation of a unified syllabus for Islamic culture and asked all universities in the Muslim world to make it part of their curriculum after translating it into various live languages.They also called for developing an Islamic discourse to protect the identity of the Ummah and safeguard it from the influence of other foreign cultures. The participants said Islamic culture in its entirety means the Islamic creed, rules, ethics, ideals, traditions, skills and behavior.

They said the Islamic culture is the driving force for building civilizations and attaining creativity and excellence in all the human activities. The participants were unanimous that the Muslim Ummah of today is a far cry from its glorious history especially the remarkable civilization achievements Islam had made in the past and had positively influenced other civilizations. They reiterated that Islam shouldnot be equaled with the culture of terrorism, extremism and violence, which have subverted the discourse on Islam because of detachment from the true religion.

Dr Abdullah Bin Abdul Mohsen Al-Turki, Secretary General of the MWL read out the recommendations which called for formulating suitable strategies to confront Islamophobia. The conference asked all Islamic countries to adopt a cultural project to spread moderation and to fight sectarianism and fanaticism. One of the recommendations invited“the community to ensure that Muslim youth be brought up according to the correct Islamic culture, protected against falling prey to terrorism, sectarianism or extremist ideas and made to adopt moderation.”Concluding on Tuesday, 30 September 2014, the three-day conference also asked to immunize Muslim children from extremist ideologies and to bring them up according to the correct Islamic culture.

The High Commissioner M. R. Daureeawo performed Hajj as a guest of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Muslim World League. He extended gratitude to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and the Saudi Government for the excellent arrangement by Rabita Al Alam Al Islami for Hajj 2014. All pilgrimages were provided with great services, assistance and facilities in performance of the Hajj rituals in Mina Arafat and Muzdalifah. The High Commissioner attended Eid lunch reception organized in the Royal Palace of Mina where he was greeted by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Saleem Bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud. He expressed that it was a great and enriching spiritual duty.
